Taking chem 30 B, chem 30 AL, math 32 A & one more class in a quarter?

Hi,
I'm a biochem major and I'm planning to take chem 30B, chem 30 AL, math 32A and either of life science 2, physics 6A, or a G.E in the fall quarter.
I'm kinda rushing cuz I want to complete all of my major prerequisites by the end of my 2nd year.
Is this doable? or could anyone suggest a better plan?
Btw, I have to take 4 classes per quarter.

I’m just going to warn you right now: 4 classes, especially if it’s all math/science classes, will be very time consuming if you want to get an A in all the classes. I was in your situation this time last year, but I could afford to take 3 classes during winter quarter. Got all my prereqs done, albeit not always with the grades I wanted.

So unless you do nothing but go to class and go straight back to your room to study, you’ll have to make a trade off between grades and the number of classes you take.

If you’re the type that can sleep 3 hours a night and still function normally or some sort of child prodigy, then by all means go for 4 science classes a quarter.

Thanx for your advice, Gotlactose.
But I forgot to tell you that I took math 32A last quarter and dropped it just before the finals, which is why I’m taking it this quarter before I forget the material.
My only concern is that I have to take chem lab and chem together- I did it last quarter with chem 30A and chem 20L, and I had to drop math becuz it was just too much.
Do you think I should do chem 30AL in the winter quarter? but it doesn’t look like they are gonna offer 30AL in the winter.

Btw, if I take 3 math/science classes and 1 easy G.E (sociology 1), would this still be too much?

Well, definitely don’t plan on taking LS 2 or Physics 6A with Chem 30B, 30AL, and Math 32A unless you really think you can handle that workload of course. I know 30AL is a ton of work. I feel like math could wait a quarter or 2, but you just want to get it over with while it’s somewhat still fresh in your mind. Either way, you can’t finish your pre-reqs for Biochem by the end of Spring 2012. You probably can with summer school, but I have a biochem friend who barely started 30AL this past spring (he was a 2nd year), so it’s not too bad if you don’t finish your pre-reqs too soon.

Chem 30AL is only offered in the fall and spring.

I think the biggest concern for 30AL is that it’s not curved at all. There’s a lot of work because not only do you have to learn the material, but you also have to do the lab write ups. I actually recommend taking 30AL after you’ve finished the lecture series because the lab series teaches material completely out of order. You’ll be using spectroscopy in 30AL, but you may not have learned the theories in 30B yet. My friend who hadn’t taken 30A yet was struggling to understand the concepts while it was just review for me.

Since I’m also a biochem major, I’m familiar with how many lab classes we have to take. If you take 30AL in the spring, you’ll have 4 more quarters of lab to take. You should take this into consideration when you check your 4 year plan.

Also, keep in mind that 30AL labs meet twice a week, so that’s almost twice the amount of writing and material compared to 20L. I say almost because sometimes a lab takes two periods, but that’s still only one lab write up.

3 math/science + easy GE is doable, but still a lot of work.
