Taking CHM2045 and MAC2311 at the same time?

Hi. I am going to be taking 15 credits during the fall semester (my first semester at UF). My major is Materials Science Engineering. I took Calc AB AP in HS and I took two years of chem honors (1 and 2). I passed Calc with a 3, but want to take it again just to make sure I know all the material.

These are the classes I am currently taking:
MAC2311(4cred)
EMA1004(3cred)
CHM1025(2cred)
SLS1102(1cred)
IUF1000(3cred)
IDH1700(1credhonors)
EGS1006(1cred) (based on attendance)

I am also going to be rushing in the fall. Should I really take MAC2311 and CHM2045 at the same time if I can’t even get a good professor for chem? I can always wait for the spring and get first pick because I’m in the honors college. However, I will be taking MAC2312 in the spring which I heard is terrible.

Please let me know! I’m honestly not sure what to do anymore

You listed CHM 1025 and not CHN 2045. It’s common for engineering students take MAC2311 and CHM 2045 in their first semester. You shouldn’t have any trouble with it.

If you are taking CHM 1025, then you shouldn’t have any problem with CHM 2045 in the Spring (with MAC2312). You’re going to need to take either Chemistry or Physics, while taking your Calculus classes, or you’ll not finish the critical tracking course in the required 5 semesters.

You basically have to take 2 critical tracking courses, each semester (except the first):
CHM 2045 or CHM 2095, CHM 2046 or CHM 2096, EMA 3010, MAC 2311, MAC 2312, MAC 2313, MAP 2302, PHY 2048, PHY 2049

Thanks for your insight. Here is a follow up question I was just presented: should I take flipped MAC2311 or normal MAC2311?

Sorry, I don’t really know that much about “flipped” MAC2311. Personally, I think it’s a good idea. You may as well watch the lectures online (it’s not much different from listening to them live), yet you get to spend the class time working on homework, where help is available.

I think some classes are still available.

Good Luck!

Usually I would say skip Calc, especially since you have the credit, but since you need calc 2, try to see if you can get an appointment with your academic advisor the first week and they can help you figure out what to do during add/drop.
