Taking more classes-->Lower GPA?

I've already signed up for my next year's classes but I'm unsure if I've made a good decision or not. I have 4 APs, 1 honors, and 2 electives down for my schedule next year but I could have gotten 4 APs, 1 honors and 1 elective. I've calculated the GPA from both schedules for the maximum GPA that I can acheive. For 6 classes my max GPA would be 4.83 while taking 7 classes would lower my GPA down to 4.71.

My question is: Should I drop off the extra 1st period that I've signed up for? I've signed up for 7 classes because 1st period starts around the time my sisters' school starts. However, after thinking about it, I can just study or sleep at school during that 1 hr time. The only benefits of a 1st period would be, in my opinion, learning more stuff (Psychology)- which I'm not that interested in, or not yet at least. Do colleges look unfavorably down upon you if you don't take the max of 7 classes?? Do they know the limits, difficulty of classes, etc.? Again, I don't really want to take another class because there is nothing else that interests me much. The class would bring down my GPA right? So, should I take the extra 1st period class or not? (I can spend the extra hour in the morning studying and/or sleeping =] )

I say keep the class. Colleges like to see you make the most of your resources.

I say drop the class. If it is a class you aren't intrested in, why take it? You could have more sleep (which is better for you) and you get a higher GPA. I don't think colleges will look down on this at all!!! Colleges want to see you take classes your intrested, not to take classes so you can make a 7 period day.

Take it if you can find a class you actually enjoy, if not then there is no point in taking an extra course you don't want.

It feels like there's something wrong with that statement.

I think you're leaning towards dropping the class anyway, so drop it. You sound like you've convinced yourself already :)

yeah, if you have a choice to get an extra 1hr of sleep/time to do hw then go w/ that.

Totally agreed, Shravas...

Well.. I'm still concerned about my GPA, but I REALLY had a hard time choosing the last extra class because there wasn't one class that stood out among the others. Art-boring, Technology-Boring + Bad teacher + waste time, other classes are just time wasters and people told me Psychology was fun so I picked that. However, I'm not totally interested in that class or in any other electives.

So, do colleges look down upon you if you took 6 instead of the maximum of 7 classes that you could've taken? Plus, I already have so much work that adding another class would mean more work. I'd rather concentrate on my APs, ECs, and SATs..

This is easy, dont take the extra class. In doing so you get a higher gpa, more free time and you're notreally interested in the class anyway so no big deal. And six class is plenty, especially with the challenging courseload you have.

Colleges care that you make the most of what is available to you. But when they say that, they primarily mean in terms of IB, AP, and Honors courses, as well as online APs and college classes. Not taking an extra 0 hour elective shouldn't hurt you.
