Hey guys, longer-story-short, my schedule is packed.

Is it a bad idea to take the subject tests early senior? Will that be okay for early apps? I am aiming for the big guys-- MIT, Ivy Leagues, Caltech, Berkeley-- will this affect my apps to them?

Thanks a ton for any input!

If you cannot take it in Junior or earlier, you have no choice. You do need good SAT2 scores for many of these top schools. Ideally, you take it at the end of junior year right after AP when the contents are fresh in your memory.

How difficult is it to prep for the SAT2s? I could take them after the AP tests, but I probably wouldn’t have much time to prep

If it’s a subject you’re taking an AP test for this year, it might be best to study for the May test alongside your AP test. It kind of forces you to study more, and any studying for the SAT Subject test helps you for the AP test. At least my AP US teacher has told me this.

I plan on taking Chemistry, physics, and Math II

I am taking AP Chem this year, took physics this year-- but only first semester-- but math II is what worries me.

I don’t know what to expect from math II, I have taken AP calc and got a 5 on the AP test, but that doesn’t really mean much for math II, does it?

For math II, just study for a week out of the Barron’s. I did that and got a good score (770, some say it’s not a good score and I point my middle finger at those people :)). I took it at December (the last time for a senior to take it, really procrastinated). I also took chem at the same time. The problem that I was facing for chem was that I was taking AP chem as a senior, which meant that during the test, I only had about 40% of the material. I got a 700 (dunno how) which is an ok score (not great for colleges you mentioned), but I think that you can get a good score with just the barron’s book. I have no clue about Physics because our school only teaches physics mechanics. My best advice is for you to take them as soon as you can, preferably in May. If you can’t do that for some of your tests, then put your studying in your summer schedule and take the tests early in your senior year.

For Math2 or other subjects you are taking AP classes, it may just need a couple week to prepare for SAT2.
