sydism- son’s portal states the same info. His application has been in since October, and his stats are above the range given on College Navigator. It states “audition not received” which is accurate since he will audition at Unifieds.

My S’s portal also says “Audition Not Received” (he auditioned in November) so I sent an e-mail and this is the response:

“audition results were forwarded to the Office of Admissions several weeks ago. His status will be posted as incomplete until admissions makes a final decision. Unfortunately, I don’t have control over that office’s timeline, but I will forward your inquiry to my contact there to check on the situation”

Thanks bisouu, that’s what I thought happens. I’m just perplexed as to why D hasn’t heard anything yet. She is also well above the average stats.

sydsim…did your D turn in her supplement stuff? and the check for the audition?

sydism - son in the same boat. I’m going with Calliene’s daughter’s report that the BFA Acting and the BFA MT are separate and so may do things differently. Son has received 7 academic acceptances, but has yet to hear from the other eight, so different strokes for different folks.

bisouu, everything is in (and noted as received on the portal) and her on-campus audition has been scheduled for weeks.

Kind of nervous after reading about the students that have been deferred over on the regular Montclair board.

sydsim…Did you apply EA? I just checked the portal and somehow we applied EA and didn’t even realize it…Maybe that is why we have heard already?

Bisouu, yes she applied EA as well.

I was curious if high grades and SAT scores compared to the college’s average will help me get into the Musical Theatre program? Also, I’m in-state. Will that help me too?
I know it’s mostly based on talent, but I really like this school and it’s reputation.
Thanks! :)

kirasinger17, I can only guess at the answer here, but my impression is that acceptance into MT is purely audition-based. I suppose that if all else was completely equal, other factors like grades and SAT’s and where you are from would come into play, but those things mostly affect admission to the college rather than to MT.

My son received two e-mails from Montclair yesterday. First one said there is still time to apply, the other one said he was an accepted student and to check out the accepted student checklist etc.! He hasn’t auditioned, so the acceptance would be purely academic. Went to the portal, and everything looks the same (all things “complete” except the audition).

Bisouu - did your D get a snail mail acceptance packet?

Yes, she got a big packet through snail mail. We never saw or got a portal…

Thanks Bisouu! Son auditions in NYC, so hopefully he will have a hard copy of the academic acceptance by then.

Academic acceptance arrived today :)

Woohoo!! Entertainersmom!

Congratulations! Such a great feeling!

It is nice for son to have one foot in the door :)

D received her academic acceptance last week too.

Congratulations sydism and D!!

OK, this is odd: apparently my S has been academically accepted at Montclair but never received a snail (or any kind of) mail acceptance letter! We came home from another audition trip tonight to discover a letter had arrived from Montclair, which he assumed was a rejection based on his audition at NY Unifieds. But instead it was a letter that started, “Congratulations AGAIN on your acceptance to Montclair State University!” (emphasis supplied), followed by information about a merit scholarship! I checked his status online, but it just says “AUDITION:: Not Received”. I checked his email inbox, and there were a few emails from Montclair that sounded like the usual “don’t forget to complete your application” message he gets almost daily from the schools he has yet to audition for, but on second glance, I do see some offhand references to accepted students. Wish we had known that going in to NY Unifieds as his mindset would have been different.

For those who have received an acceptance letter, what does it say on your status check page on the Montclair website?
