Academic acceptance received - auditioned in November and website still says audition not received and have received several emails stating that process needs to be finished by scheduling an audition. ?!

My daughter auditioned for dance last week and her status has changed from Audition Not Received to Audition Received and in the notes it says Yes DAST, does anyone know what that means?

For the MTs, son did receive the big packet and then the merit letter two days ago. He is getting all the e-mails from you need to complete the process (and a postcard to complete app) to emails referencing his accepted status. Nothing has changed on his portal status. From old threads, the audition not received remains for quite awhile.
momofour4 - I’d have D give Montclair a call!

Update: I called Montclair today, and my S was indeed academically accepted about 3 weeks ago! They’re sending out a duplicate packet/letter just so we’ll have proof of acceptance. Now just waiting to hear on the artistic acceptance…

Is there a study abroad program for the Acting or MT students?

bissouu, I don’t really know the answer to this, but it would definitely be a question to ask once you have an acceptance in hand. And like I said the BFA Acting and the BFA MT are really separate, but I have never HEARD my daughter speak of any of the kids in her program (MT) studying abroad. That doesn’t mean it’s not possible. But the course requirements for the BFA MT are massive and intense - it is hard for the kids to fit in the few gen eds that they have - so I’m not sure how a semester abroad would fit in with that, but maybe there is a winter or summer program. Our experience was that once my daughter was accepted, all the schools were SOOOO wonderful about answering any questions. Just like us, for them the audition season is over at that point, and they are more relaxed and moving on to the next phase…But you probably could call now and find out.

If by chance my D is accepted we plan to visit the school in March…would they allow her to sit in on a couple of classes?

For those who have already auditioned for the MT program at Montclair, can you give some insight as to the process. How was the dance call. What was asked of them in it, what did you s or d think of the music theroy test, and how long did they say before you hear if you were accepted. My sons audition is not until March 22 the last one, and I’m a bit nervous that because of the late date. His acceptance might be limited because of all those that have already been accepted into the program. Has anyone been accepted who auditioned already. Any feed back would be most appreciated.

My daughter has virtually no music theory so she couldn’t answer most of the questions. Montclair State said it was just used for placement purposes only. The dance call was not too difficult, nor was it too easy. Those who can tap have an opportunity to show their stuff at the end of the regular dance audition. The parents can actually watch the dance call because it takes place in a dance studio with a floor to ceiling glass wall. Is your son nervous about the dance call?

Thank you for your insight, have your heard if your daughter was accepted yet. I can’t say that my son is nervous, but he doesn’t have much of a dance background. He started to take tap this year and he has stage movement, but actual “dance” no. My son did play and instrument, and his voice coach is helping him with theory to refresh him. Good Luck to your daughter. Thanks for letting me know you can watch, I’d think that would make the kids even more nervous.

I wouldn’t be nervous about the dance or the theory test. Several of the colleges gave theory tests and they all said it was for placement purposes only. As far as the dance, he should show his personality and smile a lot and try to have fun with it. I agree that the kids would be more nervous if they knew the parents were watching so it might be a good idea to go get a cup of coffee or go eat in the cafteria while your son is doing the dance call. Break a leg to your son!

Oh I have learned through this process to say very little accept break a leg on the day of audition, don’t want my nervousness to come out on him. You did not mention if your daughter was accepted into the MT program or not. How long after the audtion did they say would would hear?

My S auditioned for Montclair at NY Unifieds, and there was no music theory assessment at all so must be only an on-campus thing? He said the dance call wasn’t that difficult – he’s only been studying ballet for the last couple of years, and is more a “mover” than a dancer. “Watch my face, not my feet” is how I’d characterize it; he’s a great facial dancer! And he was apparently accepted to their MT program last week (according to a conversation with Admissions and an update on his CheckMyStatus page), although we haven’t received the official letter yet so are holding off on posting under MT Acceptances. BAL to your S, and tell him to have fun with it and not to worry about his technique. Oh, and resist the urge to watch through the window unless your S is OK with that!

Thanks maMTma. My sons dance is more of a “mover” as well. Started taking dance this year (tap). Thanks for your feed back and congrats to you son. My S audition isn’t until the 22nd. And this is his top choice so fingers crossesd. Might I ask what pieces your S used for his audition. How long from Audition to Acceptance did it take.

He auditioned on 1/26 at NY Unifieds, and his online status changed to “YES MUTR” on 2/20; still haven’t received the letter, though.

Thanks again you’ve been most helpful.

Not sure I can post a link here (I’ll try) but here’s a great article on the upcoming production of 42nd Street. Extremely elaborate production with costumes and sets rented from the national tour and many pros involved:
