I got an invitation! :)

they are sent to everyone in the 99th percentiel right? i should be getting one at some point...

also, on your book list, do you guys have short stories? what about poetry? do you also list all the individual poems you have read or do you only list, like, anthologies you have read?

I haven't gotten my PSAT results back, so I don't know what percentile I'm in, although I predict definitely in the 90s.

Nominations were due December 1st, 2006. It says to call a phone number for teachers to nominate students after December 15th (ironically, yesterday). I've been so swamped with other work and school matters that I didn't start looking at summer programs until now... do you guys think it'll look bad/be too late to be nominated now?

i really dont think it matters if you are nominated or not, thats what previous taspers told me

what, everyone who scores in the 99th percent tile gets nominated? hmmm.. i havent recieved anything in the mail yet

so what are you guys doing your literary analyses on? i think im going to do it on something philosophical

Thanks for the information. Still anxious to get my PSAT scores back though...

Good question, I'd like to know this too. I hear if your nominated you get a paper brochure and application... I'd like this too. :D

it doesn't matter whether you get the paper application or not. just download it from the website. the whole point of sending out paper applications is to ensure geographic diversity and representation, as well as getting more kids from other areas of the US to apply. i remember last year a lot of people with 225+ scores didn't get the app in the mail, but people with lower scores did. don't worry about it.

i think my conflict essay will be the easiest one.

lit analysis, i'm still not sure what i'm going to do. i was going to do a poem i read last year and wrote an analysis on, but they don't want an essay done for school so i might not use that after all.

well, it would still be cool to have a paper application. :P But another reason is I'd like to give my recommendation teacher a brochure to learn about the program before he/she writes the recommendation.

you can just print out the brochure from the website.

i got a paper app even though i thought i did badly on my psats, but i'm probably just going to use the online version anyways because i'm known to procrastinate. using the paper app doesn't give you any advantage. i'm more worried about the actual essays.

are you guys applying online or on paper?

thanks, everyone!
to tell you the truth, before I got into TASP i never even considered that I could get into a school like Yale. I hope you all have more confidence in yourselves than i did, because the truth is that a TASP acceptance will not make or break you. it will be an incredible summer for you if you get in, but you shouldn't take it as an indication of your personal value or something.

anyway, now that i'm done with that random note, i just want to reiterate what has already been said and point out that it DOESN'T MATTER if you apply using an app sent to you or online. i remember last year some people were freaking out because they had crinkled the copy that was sent to them but still wanted to use it for the advantage it would provide. where they got that idea i don't know. and the apps are sent to the highest couple of scorers in each zip code plus some other people thrown in to diversify the pool even more. I didn't get one and i got a respectable 225 on the PSAT. so it's not a big deal.

congrats vegangirl!!!!!!

Congrats, Ryan! TASPers did very well in college admissions this year. I'm so happy for everyone!!

congrats to you too, mindy! wharton, that's amazing.
and yeah, we cleaned up. the number of kids going to harvard blows me away...

how many TASPers got accepted into Harvard for EA?

just a quick question.. do we have to put down the names of the authors of the books we've read? (ouch, that sounded convoluted)

you don't have to, but it'd be nice i guess.

unless you're reading some obscure philosopher, i'm pretty sure they'll know the books you're mentioning. but, of course, it wouldn't hurt.
