Oh shush, bravos89. Your personal conflict essay was just as cheesy.. if not cheesier. Hmph.

Aida btw your my hero, even If your a little Emo child with large boobs (only on some occasions) who despises Michael Chen while cutting your thighs.

WAIT....if I do that will I get into TASP aswell????

YEP. That's me.

Do what, Lobster?

This is paternalism going rampant.

OK, I have a question.

So the quality of essays you write for your application is 95% of what determines whether you make the first cut, whether you get an interview.

After that, is the interview the complete deciding factor that narrows down the remaining candidates to the 86 people who make it? Or do the essays and other stuff still count?

Well Aida if I go all hardcore and emoish- maybe a little alternative, maybe write all my essays in hyakus.....

Just trying to get a competitive edge

Comisar... Well considering your Essays already got you through the first cut they have already played a pretty big factor in your chances. After that you just got to asert yourself like no other in that interview. In essance my understanding your essays are the building blocks for the interview so if you have strong essays you have more to work with and buildoff of in your interview.

What school you go to comisar....Noticed you live in San Jose

Thanks. And Lynbrook, what about you?

How do you guys write a personal essay? :( I've hardly ever wrote a personal essay, would you know any good books or guides, or good personal essays you have read that can assist someone in writing one themself?

You ask the nearest parent for some ideas :D

are most of you guys going to write your critical analysis on poems? any books, essays, plays?

^^ Personal essays are good because you can talk about whatever you want that relates back to yourself. They can be a betch because it's hard to pick a topic.

I'm having issues writing one myself now, so I don't know if I can be of much help. XD

Think of something that makes you unique and run with it. Maybe you never celebrated birthdays when you were a child (as was my case). Work that! Just find something that either sets you apart or that really reveals something about the person you are. Then, get to work. ;)

I was planning on doing a book or a short story, I think.

Does it make a difference, I wonder, whether we submit the self-photo?

I was wondering what kind of picture to put. Do they just want your face? Or maybe a more interesting shot of yourself doing something you're passionate about (like a sport)?

My mom thought maybe it was so they can ensure racial diversity. Like you might say you're black or Native American or something because you're like 1/16 that, but you just look white.

I am applying to TASP's (I like the WashU one as well) and RSI

Comsair. Haha Lynbrook, very nice, I go to Saratoga. I'm asuming your one of the few non-asians....

Also comsair i see what you say about the racial identity with the pictures and everything, but isnt race and sex(gender) just a personal assigned trait, so if some wangsta felt and thought he was black he could mark that. Same with someone who associates themselves with being female even though they may not anatomically be female. (haha technacalities are *****es)

^^^^^I'm sure that will garner some interesting replies. I dont think I worded it exactly as I meant though.

hahaha! I didn't submit a photo, 'cause I filled it out online... I think? I'm pretty sure no picture went there. Oh well.

It's a small photo, so I'd say a headshot. But I've no idea!

Ummm.. Sex is not the same thing as gender. Gender is an identity (there are more than just 3 genders, too), whereas sex is biological. You're either female or male, in "sex" terms. :)

Ethnic background is one thing, racial identity is another.
