Tasp 2007

i think i'll just send in a headshot. it's for identification, i think, but if you're especially hot and good-looking (hah), it couldn't hurt.

Think of something that makes you unique and run with it. Maybe you never celebrated birthdays when you were a child (as was my case). Work that! Just find something that either sets you apart or that really reveals something about the person you are. Then, get to work.

Though what I am wondering is HOW to get to work. Writing is a process... and I am virtually inexperienced in the process of writing about yourself. :(

EDIT: Just like how there is a special method/way to write literary analysis, which you have provided guides for (which I am thankful for! :D).

you've never done any creative writing? personally, i think writing about myself is fairly easy, because i can write anything i want. there's no one to tell me i'm wrong. and i can pull stuff out of my ass if i wanted to. (but not on tasp essays!)

anyways, it's good practice for college essays. there's no real "method". if you want examples, pick up an anthology of short stories at barnes and noble and leaf through it.

Okay, a few more questions:

(1) Is there any way we can bold or italicize things using the online application?

(2) If I apply via regular postmail, is there a margin or font size specification? Also, is there a particular or preferred format to follow? (e.g., include the prompts themselves or just the responses)

(3) How do I type my responses on the PDF application file (assuming I wish to send it on paper)

(4) So is it a good idea to include a self-photo? or does it not matter at all?

Hmm, I think that's all I can think of, for now. :)

man, we had the what is race/ethnicity/gender/sex discussion sooooo many times at my TASP. SO MANY TIMES. not that that's a bad thing. that post was just a little trip down memory lane. lol.

Glad to be of service vegan.

Daenerys....I just finished typing out my app, in PDF. It was a *****, I had to use Adobe Acrobat (not reader) and create form fields (acrobat 7+) over all the lines then type it in that way. I would send you the one I did with the forms but the TASS app is different from the TASP app. The above process was confusing and i need my mom who works at adobe to help me figure it out. You can PM me if you need any more help.

^ Wouldn't it have been easier to just print it out & mail it?

And yes, I'm one of the non-Asians at Lynbrook... but I swear I fit right in haha

About the critical analysis... can I just say the main idea of the author in that piece of writing, and explain how that message was delivered? Is that what they want?

Lobster, wouldn't be easier just to apply online? Or am i missing something here?

No, I'd agree that it is much easier to apply online. The only thing slightly irritating about it (in my opinion) is that I'm unable to bold or italicize things. Argh.

Vegangirl, musechick2007, and any other previous TASPers, would you mind posting or sending me your application essay(PM, EMAIL, AIM, or MSN)??? I just wanted to get a feel for the level of complexity and maturity the readers are expecting.
The only analysis I have written are for english at school. Would you guys say that AP English levels are not enough for the TASP essays??? Do the readers really expect somthing college level, analytical, and eloquent or something that is insightful and passionate?
thanks in advance!!! :-)

If you would like to read my essays, please PM me. I've sent them to several people on these forums already, and I'm fine with sending them to more. My only request is that you email me first to make it simpler. I don't know if my email's in my profile, but if not, PM me for it.

Merry christmas, everyone (jews too, you all get to eat chinese food and go see all the new movies. i know. i'm in on your secret).

HAHAHA, that's exactly what my Jewish family and I were planning on doing tomorrow! :)

how come i dont get the joke? haha we're eating chinese food tommorrow as well

I realize it would be easier to do it online but hey I sort of started it the old fashion way before the online app was up so I will stick to the old fashion way. Ironicaly my "old fashion" way requires quite a bit of technology. However in my procrastination I will probably take advantage of the extra week for online apps.

Consair...Coincedently your Jewish as pretty much everyone I know from Lynbrook is Jewish. Hey Mazel Tov!

lol Mazal Tov is like congratulations... :)

Chag Sameach is like Happy Holidays... literally. Chag means holiday and sameach means happy.

Well that's strange, because I know pretty much NOBODY Jewish at Lynbrook! Who do you know? haha. I can think of maybe three people.

I'm thinking of doing my lit analysis on a contemporary book. Do they care if you write on a classic or something recently published?

^ Not at all! As long as you demonstrate insight. :]

no, i'm pretty sure it doesn't matter.

haha you beat me to it.
