scuze me but do you know what subject you’ll be teaching in SC? is there any chance of being assigned to special ed?

Has anyone heard anything yet? Looks like Oklahoma City might be a major possibility for us waitlisters. May 20th is almost here, Good Luck to everyone still waiting!

Yeah I heard that they just confirmed oklahoma city as one of the new regions for this coming fall. I’m not sure if they filled that region with the waitlisters notified with acceptance on may 2nd. Anyways, have you heard anything otherwise?

thanks and goodluck
we’ve all waited so long!

Oh wow guys another waitlist date of the 25th. Guess we are still waiting. But hey, it looks like they are doing the best they can to get us all placement. :)

yea… i guess that’s good news and bad news. On the one hand, its great to hear that there are still potential opportunities available for us… on the other, i’m so sick of waiting and just want to know already. I wonder if there will still be any updates on the 20th.

Yeah i agree it sucks not knowing. And it would be great to know if everyone received the same email or if some people will find out tommorow.

Post and let us know ;)

I believe we just got re-re-waitlisted.

I got the same e-mail everyone else did. I think it is definitely good news.

By the way, my transitional funding now shows dollar amounts at the bottom. This happened some time in May (not sure when, but I noticed it on Monday or Tuesday). Is this true for anyone else?

My transitional funding has not changed from ‘under review’. Although, I applied very late so perhaps that’s why. Then again, it could mean something else. Who knows at this point. I’m curious as to what the new districts will be… anyone know?

Oklahoma City is basically filled at this point, I’ve been told. Though if for some reason you are invited to join us in Oklahoma, jump on it! There are some exciting things going on here right now.

I have no clue about any other region, but good luck to those of you still waiting!

I feel compelled to share that I found at least one person who was admitted on may 20th. Hope that does not speak poorly of our chances.

Good luck everyone!

Oh wow, I didn’t hear that. Do you know where they were placed?

She was placed in atlanta

I’m tired of waiting. Tomorrow is the day!

Just got word that I did not get in. Anyone else get anything? They gave me a reapplication thing.

Nothing on my end yet. Sorry for your news :(

did everybody get the following message:

I am writing to provide a final update about your waitlist status and am very sorry to inform you that we were not able to find a placement for you. We very much regret that we do not have the space in our 2011 corps to offer you a position this year because we believe that you have the potential to make a significant contribution to our movement to end educational inequity. We realize this e-mail may bring disappointment and are truly grateful for the patience, flexibility, and cooperation you have shown us in the past weeks while waiting for updates from us. Unfortunately, our placement constraints mean that we will not be able to benefit from the impact that you could have had as a corps member this year.

Given your strong candidacy, we invite you to reapply within the next two years to the 2012 or 2013 corps through an abbreviated application process. This streamlined admissions process is designed so that our 2011 waitlisted candidates can more easily reapply and will be available beginning December 5, 2011.

Abbreviated Reapplication Process

If you’re interested in reapplying through this abbreviated process, you will:

complete a short application form that we will e-mail to you
provide a current resume that lists your most recent activities and/or work experiences since your last application
submit a letter of intent to the Selection Committee that answers these questions: What have you been doing since you last applied to Teach For America, and why have you chosen to reapply?
participate in a phone interview, if requested to do so by the Selection Committee
provide a letter of recommendation from someone who has worked with you recently, if requested to do so by the Selection Committee
We will review completed applications on a rolling basis and will notify candidates of their acceptance status within four weeks of submitting their application and required documents.

Please know that while our Selection Committee was impressed by your application this year, should you reapply, we cannot guarantee acceptance into the corps. Therefore, we encourage you to engage in experiences that will further strengthen your application. We understand that you may have many questions and while it is our policy to not provide individual feedback on our admissions decisions, we hope you find the following suggestions for enhancing your candidacy helpful. We recommend that you:

pursue additional opportunities that allow you to make a meaningful impact
seek out further challenging leadership experience(s)
continue to achieve strong results in professional, academic, and extracurricular activities
plan to provide a new recommendation from someone who has worked with you recently
deepen your knowledge of our mission and build your readiness to take on this work
If you have any questions about reapplying, please contact us at admissions@teachforamerica.org. In addition, please ensure that you provide an e-mail address where we can contact you in the future to receive updates and information about the reapplication process – just log on to the Applicant Center and click the Update Your E-mail link in the left-navigation bar.

Regardless of your decision to reapply, we encourage you to pursue other ways to make a difference. To do this, we have two resources available to you. The first is a list of recommended resources posted on our website, and the second is the opportunity to receive information from our partner organizations who are interested in recruiting our highly-qualified candidates. If you are interested in being contacted by them, please complete a short form here.

Again, thank you for the energy and time you invested in our admissions process. I know that you will have great success in your endeavors and hope you will continue to explore opportunities to work toward educational and social change that will benefit from your impact. We appreciate your interest in our program and hope you will consider working to eliminate educational inequity with us in future years. We look forward to receiving your new application.

Sincerely,
