Teach For America 2013 Corps

Oh, and I also got the survey like the week after my interview…or maybe at the end of the week–the 19th/20th (I interviewed Monday). I don’t think that means anything…then again, who can really know. Only a few more days! I’m just ready to get it over with. This emotional rollercoaster is exhausting!

I interviewed on the 15th and got the survey on the 19th.

I was on a community service committee in student government, the debate chair of the elections commission, a resident mentor, an orientation housing ambassador, a peer coordinator in the psychology department, a teaching assistant at Duke TiP summer camp, and a peer leader for University 101.

Also, I received the survey the same day I interviewed, Oct. 19th. It is strange there is such variation in when we received our surveys.

Regardless what happen on Thursday, i was a pleasure meeting you all guys. I am going o be busy until Thursday, the year is wrapping up and I have lots to do for my nonprofit organization and final exam left. ON FRIDAY I AM GOING ON A CRUISE TO HE BAHAMAS FOR THE WEEKEND. Either way, its going to be an adventurous week.

Do you guys thing TFA monitors this thread?

Out of my own curiosity - what school do you guys go to? TFA is known to admit lots of students from Ivy league school - I go to UCF. University of Central Florida.

@IamafriendofGod maybe I met you at the final interview. I live in Miami and I attend law school I wont say which one on here, but which interview date did you attend?

@luvya683 - My interview date was on 10/18 & Submitted TF 10\19 -

STILL UNDER REVIEW :slight_smile: I received my survey 10\19 - But decide not to do it until after the decision!

@IamafriendofGod my interview date was 10/15 & I am also still under review :). I received my survey around 10/19 as well and I would advise you to go ahead and fill it out. You do not want them to think you would do that as a teacher if selected. They may reject you if they feel you can’t meet deadlines or fill out simple surveys in a timely fashion. The survey may be apart of the process that nobody knows about, but TFA staff.

Is anyone else having trouble accessing the TFA website? Or is it just me?

@iraja I’m having trouble accessing the TFA website as well. If you look in the URL address bar it says maintenance.teachforamerica.org…maybe it’s being UPDATED!!!

yup, the website is undergoing maintenance. DANGIT I didn’t get a chance to obsess over my lack of TF status-changing yet today! Ah well, I suppose it’s for the best ;)

@ RShackelford

I was president of the local NEA affiliate.

@ OKTFA2013

I wouldnt worry about it. The survey has no bearing on your actual admission. :)

@teach4them I have learned you believe half of what people say and everything they show you. I know TFA say the survey is not part of the admission because of course they would like to preserve their credibility by not having us give an opinion and then punishing us for it. But look at what they show us, they want us to fill out a survey that is not anonymous and it is due before notifications come out. That’s just too telling to me I’d rather be safe than sorry.

I was the president of my sorority, Treasurer of Puertorican alliance, a peer educator, and the Chair of Student Activities for student government. I also organized a cleanup in my local garden.

I got my survey invite the next day too I think. I thought nothing of it just went ahead and completed it. I got to TWU here in Texas.

Wonder if it’s really maintenance or if we crashed the site with our incessant checking of out TF’s haha

I was a business owner for six years. I owned a small graphic and web design firm and managed a small team. I was also an assisted living executive director for a company that owned about 250 facilities. I would travel all over the country and clean up facilities that were performing poorly. I would hire and train new staff and a new executive director and make sure the facility was performing well before the company sent me to the next one. When I held that position, I managed anywhere from 20 to 100 people, depending on the size of the facility. The interviewer asked me a great deal about this position.

Guys, I really don’t think we need to over analyze everything. My interview was at the TFA offices in Atlanta. Being there you see just how many people work for them so you can only think there are multiple people (probably in different offices across the country) doing the same thing at different moments whether its TF, final interview or survey stuff.

2.5days left guys!!! Get pumped :)

I am at the point where I have made pros to both getting a TFA position and not getting one so I will be happy either way!

Happier with TFA though of course.

Just think in a few days instead of making posts on here about our worried TF statuses we will be posting about the location we were chosen to teach. CRAZY!

Lol, we managed to crash the site. Hopefully that does not happen Thursday. It would be a mad house here.

@KayAKay
That’s the point that I’m at. Being accepted is of course the more favorable alternative but if I’m not accepted, it’s clearly not in the cards for me right now.

Either way, I’ll be a teacher :)

Hey, guys!

Last week, my TF status suddenly changed to “Under Review” after having been listed as "Complete"a few days after my final interview. As of yesterday, it’s back up to “Complete,” though. Like the rest of you, I have no idea if this really tells us anything at all; we’re all hard-pressed to find something to give us some sort of indication of our status before November 1, so we keep obsessing! We’re closing in on those final hours now, though :)

As far as leadership positions go, I was Editor-in-Chief of my campus’ literary journal, led English classes at a local resource center, have held a mini-management position at a local grocery store for several years, and I’ve been involved as a mentor at an elementary school nearby. My undergrad academic record is fantastic, so I hope that demonstrates some degree of leadership as well–leadership within the classroom, I say!

How’s everyone feeling as the days wind down? Personally, I’m incredibly anxious! I’ve been offered a position with City Year, though, so if I don’t get TFA, I’ll be totally pumped to start my year of service with them :)
