Teach For America 2013 Corps

ONE STEP AHEAD OF TFA - I sent an email to the ALternative Certification Program Diirector in my county yesterday and here is the outcome!

Iamafriendof ,

Individuals who have a four-year college degree qualify for the alternative certification program. To take part in the program, you would start by applying for a temporary certificate with the state of Florida at fldoe.org. The state will send you a letter of eligibility with specific requirements you would need to fulfill before and after you start teaching. You may be required to take a subject area test but after that you could apply for a teaching job.

Your second step would be to apply teaching job with OCPS at www.ocps.net. Once you have your letter from the state and you have finished your OCPS application, then you can start applying to specific schools. You do this by searching for open jobs (on the same website you applied on) and attaching your resume if you are interested.

Once you have a teaching job you can start the alternative certification program. The program will satisfy the other requirements listed on your letter of eligibility from the state. You have three school years to complete the program. The program is designed to take approximately 2 years but you have up to 3 school years to complete it. The program includes classes and a portfolio of tasks but will all be explained in an orientation once you join the program. When you complete the ACP you can apply for your professional teaching certificate. Please let me know if you have any further questions.

I have meetings for the next 2 hours…I am sure I won’t pay attention to a word anyone says!

ABCTE is another option for those whose states accept it: [How to Become a Teacher | ABCTE](<a href=“American Board”>http://www.abcte.org/teach)

Ahhhhh I am struggling over here. I like how everyone’s CC logo is still yellow. No one is logging off hahaha.

ha, thats what that means! I am just refreshing both pages every 2 minutes…literally

I also am checking public Facebook posts for “Teach for America” in case that’s where news breaks first. #superanxious

This waiting really makes me feel for future applicants. Just know that we know what you’re going through right now, future applicants!

Where did you guys preference for assignment? I went with Cleveland, Pittsburgh, Milwaukee, Kansas City, Twin Cities, and Alaska.

Well it’s a no for me, guys. I just refreshed my page and had a lovely rejection letter under Status. Best of luck to all of you!
