Teach For America 2014 Corps

@teachanddance12 I am an ed major also in Social Studies and I was concerned about my subject placement as well. I would have been alright with English but anything else would have concerned me. They ended up giving me Social Studies so I do think they take into account your education background. I have come across some people who got assigned subjects they weren’t comfortable with, but I think that’s rare.

On the subject of dual certification, I think it varies region by region but they do require some people to take a certification exam in another content area to increase your marketability. The good thing about it is that you get to pick which other content exam you want to take. Since I was assigned Social Studies, I was given the option to take another certification exam in Math, English, or elementary education. So I wouldn’t worry too much about it. You will be taken care of!

Dont forget to use this to keep everyone organized and to help the 4DLers!

This wait is killing me. I have things to do but I can’t focus.

Yeah I have my social studies certification. If accepted, I’m hoping to be placed in Special Education so I can get my certification in that as well. It would be helpful even if I’m not working in an exclusively special ed class as there are so many students in inclusion classes, etc. now. I pretty much only highly preferred/preferred subjects I am comfortable teaching, but I was very flexible with my region so hopefully I’ll get one of those!

Almost there you guys!!!

Does anybody know for sure for sure what time the decisions come out? I’ve heard 8ET, 7ET, and 5ET.

and I’ve heard 6ET :)

I was happy to see that I got to this day without too much worrying but these last few hours have been rough. Hard to focus!

I got an email that said “after 6 pm ET.” Has anyone’s TF status gone (or not gone) complete?

Let’s just hope that we don’t have to wait until 8 pm to know what’s next!! My nerves are all frazzled lol

This is so hard to wait! I keep going back and forth and thinking I’m in for sure or that I don’t have a chance. It’ll be nice to have relief in a couple hours either way. It’s crazy to think that the next two+ years of our lives could change so suddenly. Moving to a whole new area of the country, starting a new job, going back to grad school. It’s kind of overwhelming, but really exciting.

Just logged in and found out I was assigned to teach secondary math!

Kept reading…“you’ve been invited to a final interview!”

So no word for me yet, haha. I don’t know how to feel, I just keep replaying over in my head all the times I’ve been “rejected” and how bad it feels and really hope that that theme doesn’t continue on over into my future life, starting with (hopefully TFA).
