Hi everyone… new to this thread. I am applying to the Jan 24th DL and was wondering if Miami-Dade is a popular regional preference? Did anyone accept an offer to teach in Miami-Dade? I’d love to hear about it :)

Best of luck natgeowild!!

I didn’t get placed in Miami, but if I remember correctly when I was choosing my regions Miami was a placement region. They have 3 categories: popular, placement, and high priority.

So if you get accepted to the program and have Miami as your #1, I imagine your chances of getting placed there are pretty good (although given how many people do not get their #1 choice, I don’t think anywhere is a guarantee).

Has anyone else started interviews for your location…I’m going to Houston and we started this week…we haven’t started our testing yet though.

@blackneducated, I was placed in Oklahoma and I still don’t even know what city I’ll be placed in, but we have begun to take exams.

For those of you doing interviews and tests, were you 3DL?? I haven’t even begun to do interviews or tests…am I not keeping up on things I should be?? Lol. I just found out on Thursday! I can’t believe people are doing interviews so quickly!

Ps, what are the interviews like?!??

Every region operates differently. Good luck to those who are doing their interviews now! I’m going to Detroit, and they have us submit profiles for the principals before interviews start. I think our interview period will start toward the end of February.

Does anyone know where the recordings are for the online events?

They had an event about teaching science, but it was at a time that I had class so I could not attend. It says on the event site that they post recordings on the TFA admissions blog, but where??? I cannot for the life of me find it.

If someone knows where it is that would be so incredibly helpful.

@andrew you have to request that one in particular, it’s not going to be posted. Your regional contact should have them by next week. The others are on the admissions blog; at the end or the stories there will be notes in itilics and the links will be there.

Hi, All–
I haven’t received my TFAnet codes yet, though I officially accepted last week. Am concerned about Praxis testing etc. for teaching ESL in Memphis.

Also, have any 3rd deadliners found out if they got their TF funding and if so, did you find out the amount? How long did it take to learn of the results?

Cheers,

Janet

@jtenglish I had the same problem regarding subject placement (was placed in hs math). My region was very understanding and reassigned me.

Regarding TFAnet, your login should be your login for the applicant center, and your TF amount, if you turned everything in before the deadline, should be on your applicant center under Transitional funding.

@may0914 Thanks for TFAnet log-in info. Finally an answer! And from a fellow corps member!

3rd deadline people already know their TF amount? Can people confirm?

I’m happy with my assignment; I just wanted to start finding out what I need to do since some have written they know when they have to take Praxis tests. Now, back to TFANet! Thanks again!

@jtenglish I turned my TF info in before the 3DL and I received my award amount on notification day. You should be able to find out your amount by clicking on transitional funding and then status. At the top of the page it should list your award amount. If you don’t have your TF status yet I would send an email to TFA through the help application.

@jtenglish I also turned in my TF info before Dec. 6 and received my award amount on notification day.

I really hope that the Americorps funding goes through. When and how will we find out whether it went through? Will they update the TF page?

@stressedgrad8 I was told we likely wouldn’t find out about Americorps funding until the beginning of the 2014/15 school year. My guess would be that TFA would keep us informed through email.

@jtenglish Like the others, I had my tf application in fairly early and was notified of the amount at the same time I found my regional placement and subject. Also, my region are in the process of reassigning my subject to one of my first choice ones since I already had passed the content knowledge exam for my state for that one and I have no background in Chemistry that they originally put me in. It’s worth mentioning it if you feel like you are much better suited to a different subject.

@ TFAHopeful29 and May0914 I really liked the lectures by Adrian Banner on YouTube. Here’s one: [Calculus II - Improper Integrals Part 1 of 2 - Lecture 5 - YouTube](<a href=“- YouTube”>- YouTube) but I think he has two or three whole courses on there. I used them to supplement the courses I was taking at college.

Good luck to all the 2014 TFA corps members! Fortunately I was accepted but ended up declining my offer to serve due to regional placements. Best of luck!

SO excited! I took forever to post this because it was a pain to make an account here for whatever reason
I also just wanted to say to everyone that was rejected, do not give up. I applied last year and got through the final interview, and I was rejected at the very end. It was devastating. Thankfully i ended up joining another organization with similar values (City Year) and I am 100% convinced that my experience with City Year was the reason I was accepted to TFA this year. So do not immediately dismiss any opportunities with similar organizations simply because it’s not what you had in mind - if you are really passionate about the mission of TFA, and not just using this as a resume booster, it’ll really show. So don’t give up!

Have any 3DL applicants who have accepted their placement gotten your pre-institute work yet? Or am I just overly eager to add something else to my plate?

@spedteacher84 I haven’t received anything in the mail yet regarding pre-institute work. I believe my information said I would receive a package of information 2-3 weeks after the acceptance deadline, which I believe was yesterday. My region did post additional information on pre-institute work on tfanet yesterday, but I have not had an opportunity to read through it yet. My focus right now is on passing the secondary math Praxis exam. Have you checked tfanet?
