Teach for America 2015 Corps

Has anyone else seen change in their TF status?

My top 5 are

Seattle
Denver
San Diego
SW Ohio
Hawaii

I’m really dreading Thursday… I hope we find out early because that’s one of the only days this week I don’t work.

My TF is still Under Review, with documents verified after switching from complete this weekend. These next 3 days are going to drag.

Does anyone know how you’re region is selected? They say it’s “random”, but I’m sure they probably give “better” applicants the most preferred region in hopes of clinching their presence in the core?

It’s definitely not random. They want to give you your top region, but it’s going to depend on how many people are going for the region vs how many spots they have, how likely they can place you in a subject that you’d be qualified to teach in that state, and they’re also trying to give people regions they have connections to as a higher preference. I’m from massachusetts and have already passed my MTELs, for example, so I would likely beat out some others for massachusetts simply because they don’t need to worry about whether I’d pass my exams and they know I have a genuine desire to teach there. They really do want everyone to be happy; it isn’t random.

Actually, I was talking to an admissions officer and she was saying how they use these complex algorithms and computer programs to place people; they go down the list of regions you’ve selected and evaluate the demand for corps members/whether or not you’re qualified to teach in the state from coursework, etc. Following that process, if the demand exceeds the number of placements in a certain area, a computer program randomly selects applicants from the already narrowed selection.

Also… so nervous/excited for Thursday! I literally can’t stop obsessing

has everyone’s documents been verified? Mine still havent been :frowning: Boooooooooooo

@DreaminTFA15‌ mine haven’t either. Pretty sure I’m getting rejected. But if it’s meant to be, it’s meant to be.

Ahh 3 more long, agonizing days!!!

Still no change in TF status; went from “complete” to under review a couple of days ago— still under review. Documents still verified with “yes”

I thought I’d share my preferences with you guys.

Mine havent been verified either @dreamintfa @xomandy122ox but I did look through last years and I saw cases of peoples documents getting verified two days before and even the day before! So we have hope!

Here’s to obsessing Tuesday and Wednesday then! Who knows… I have some home…

@blakej89 - don’t you want to stay where you live now? maybe they don’t think you “need” TF. That’s what I’m hoping atleast… Or the fact that I’m older w/ a full time job.

Yea I do @Dreamintfa15 and I hope that is true. i am also a non-traditional applicant I have worked full time for the last couple of years and am finishing up a grad degree

Hi all, like many I’ve been stalking the forum for a while and have decided to jump in for these last few days. I interviewed on the very first day (Oct 13), sumitted my TF documents ages ago (Oct 2) and am still under review, documents haven’t been verified. Trying not to lose hope. I read in last year’s forum that a lot of people went to Complete the morning of decision day!

The day after tomorrow! So close, yet so far!

2 days! Good luck to everyone! Keep your head up, and stay positive!

I’ve been lurking for awhile now, finally decided to post. I can’t wait until thursday, it’s driving me nuts.

ahhhhh I can’t wait either!!! I’ve been just trying to keep myself busy. Lucky for me, I’m working a lot of weird hours this week so hopefully I’ll be able to keep my mind off of Thursday.

Is anyone considering different teaching fellowship programs in addition to TFA? I’ve heard that TNTP is a great program too!

not having my documents verified is just making me sick to my stomach :(

If anyone has any questions about TNTP (specifically NYC) Teaching Fellows, send me a message and I can answer them!
