Teach for America 2015 Corps

Thanks @cholt5‌ and congrats to you too! To prepare, I’m continuing to read as much as I can about current issues in urban schools. I’m also going to make a reference sheet for myself with notes of key contributions I have made to each item on my resume and application (with figures, since TFA likes hard data) and anything that didn’t make it onto the application that I might like to bring up.

Glad I found this forum. Congrats to all who made it to phone interviews. I was lucky enough to be invited straight to the final interview. I am really nervous but even more excited. Good luck to all of you!

I am so glad I have found this forum! I have made it to the phone interview… Do anyone know what to expect? (Help from former applicants)

I’m so nervous!!!

How was your Phone Interview? Were the questions difficult to answer?

@iTeachBio‌ I found that the phone interview was actually more like a typical interview than any other part of the application. When I had mine last year, she asked a lot about the jobs and skills listed on my resumé, gave a brief explanation of what her year as a corps member had been like, and asked what I knew about TFA and inequality in US schools. It was very enjoyable and she definitely tried to put me at ease, despite the inevitable awkwardness of talking over the phone.

@TFAKHILL379 That does not sound too bad!!! Thank you so much. Seems the closer the date come for signing up for the phone interview, the more nervous I become. :-S

@iTeachBio My phone interview was also enjoyable and I agree with @TFAKHILL379 that it was the most like an actual job interview. It is definitely scripted and at times, that can make it a bit awkward because you can’t always tell how your interviewer is reacting to your responses to the questions he or she asks. One of the best tips I can offer is to think about (and write down) examples of successes you’ve had, whether in life or professionally, and examples of failures as well. Also, be as specific as possible when answering the questions and especially play up the numeric qualities of your successes. For example, don’t simply say “One of my biggest successes has been running my first marathon,” really go all out and detail the steps leading up to you running that marathon. Ex. “I created a strict diet and fitness regime that included running 5 times a week, weight lifting 3 times a week, running 2 half marathons previous to the full marathon, cutting out all sugar and processed foods from my diet, etc etc etc. and in 8 months I ran the Chicago marathon in ______ hours and _______ minutes.”

I think we should defifinitely try to keep this thread alive! It helps making the process easier and we can build relationships. Where is everyone hoping to get placed?

@bethechange22 Definitely! I am so nervous… Congrats on being invited straight to the final interview. I am nervous even for my phone interview lol. I am hoping to be placed in Atlanta, Georgia since that is my hometown. However I am open to Jacksonville, FL or North Carolina. You?

I’m sure you will rock the interview. I’m hoping to get placed in Seattle. I’m from ohio but currently go to school in North Carolina. My top choices are Seattle, Phoenix and San Diego.

Crosses fingers Do you currently hold an education degree and have previous teaching experience?

Hey all, I stumbled upon this thread and find it super helpful! Congrats to those that made it to the interviews! I applied during the 2nd deadline, I’m super nervous for tomorrow. When you were notified of your status, did you get an email first? or did the applicant center status change first?

I will be certified to teach middle school social studies and science upon graduating this year. How about you?

@inspirechange7‌ Welcome to the thread! I received an email to check my application and it said that I had been invited to the final interview. Few hours later I received a congratulations email.

@bethechange22 No I will not be certified. I recently graduated with my BS in Biological Sciences and minoring my Psychology. I do want to teach either High school or Middle school Science though. @inspirechange7 Good Luck!!! I checked my status center first and it was there a hour early! Telling my I was accepted into the next step, which is the phone interview.

I’m patiently waiting to sign up for my phone interview today. I’m going to try and do the earliest day possible, so I can be ahead of the rush of others.

Thanks! I keep obsessively checking both my email and the applicant center, I feel like I’m losing my mind haha I just want to know one way or the other

Been stalking this thread for a bit… I applied to the second deadline and checked the applicant center about an hour ago to find that I was invited to the phone interview! So excited!

Congrats @flossey and @inspirechange7 I am happy for you!!! I understand the feeling of waiting. I was in your place two weeks again. I felt like time was frozen. lol
