@marydee and @aqr126 - I am looking at NE North Carolina, Piedmont Triad, Appalachia and possibly Baltimore (if moving proves too difficult financially - not sure how much transitional funding TFA actually awards)…
Hey everyone, I’m surprised to see how fast this discussion board is moving! I got invited to a phone interview too!
I will be interviewing in the Los Angeles area. Does anyone know what to expect from the Online Activity, and how much it will weigh in our acceptance?
Typing this on my phone so ignore typos lol. From what I have read in other threads and earlier in this one, it sounds like some people were asked about their online activity in their interview.
I also made it to the final interview! BEYOND EXCITED! @nervynerd I’ll also be interviewing in Tennessee.
Just curious - for those of you who have made it this far, how many of you have children/spouse that would also need to relocate with you? If you do, have you calculated relocation costs/plan to apply for transitional funding?
Just did the Online Activity… it didn’t seem too bad… I do hope they ask me to expand upon my answers at the interview though…
I also completed the online activity. Those data sets were a bit confusing and I didn’t know how to approach them. LOL. The short essays weren’t too bad though.
I think that I did fairly well with the activity. I had trouble with one or two of the data sets, and one of the short essays. But overall it wasn’t too terrible. Anyone remember exactly what time we can register for our interview tomorrow?
I posted this way back but just something to keep in mind if you’re interested in teaching in NYC: New York City Teaching Fellows has their final deadline tomorrow. The application process + program is similar to TFA, but with a heavily subsidized masters program. Feel free to shoot me a message if you have questions/want more info (I’m a first year fellow)
@marydee - It says anytime after 6PM but here’s to hoping it opens up before then!
Anyone planning on interviewing in either Baltimore/DC/Philly areas?
@TeachForNC2015 Thank you!!!
Has anyone thought more about their lesson? This is literally the only part I’m really nervous about. I’ll probably say differently the day before, but right now that’s what’s getting me.
@marydee - yes, same here with the lesson! I’ve started a rough draft of a lesson plan but am waiting to see what other information we receive after tomorrow. I did view the one recording including in the latest email I received that briefly talked about the sample lesson. It mentioned you have a full minute to prep, which definitely made me feel better - I originally thought I would need to include my prep time in my five minutes. Also, it looks like we don’t have to hand them a copy of our lesson plan, which also makes me feel somewhat better!
@TeachForNC2015: From what it sounds like, you can pretty much do anything you like with that 5 minute. You have a separate minute preparation time to do whatever you need for your lesson (give handouts, write objectives, post posters, etc. etc.).
I am receiving way too many e-mails from TFA and it is really making me hopeful and excited about the corps. I don’t like it. It’ll make it hurt 100x more when that daunting day comes. :((
Not that it matters now, but can anyone please explain #2 on that free sample data set. I keep getting D but the answer is A. I’m so clueless right now. Why is it >80% and not >70%???
I agree with @TFA5thDL2015; I have definitely dealt with rejection, but I am really excited about my future with TFA!
Is anyone nervous about relocating? I see that most everyone moves after the Summer Institute, but my lease is actually up at the end of May. I’m willing to commute up to an hour or so, but some of the regional areas are quite spread out. I’m trying not to freak out…yet.
@aqr126 - I’m somewhat nervous about relocating as well, but only because it’s such a short period I would have to sell my house, move my spouse and three children and get situated… I still think it’s possible though! (Am I crazy?)…
If your lease is up at the end of May, I would check your original contract. Leases often automatically go month-to-month at the end of the initial contract period, so you may be able to pay on a month-to-month basis until you find your apartment in your new location.
Also, it looks like with TFA, you are better off renting rather than buying (from what I’m seeing) as your initial “tentative” assignment can (and looks like it often does) change slightly.
Just signed up for my final interview date and location, now to watch all of the newly available webinars and event recordings and finish the lesson plans!
@TeachForNC2015: I also just signed up for my final interview. Holy crap! It just got REAL! Let’s go ladies and gents! We got this! Gahhhh! The nerves are kicking in.
I just registered for my final interview! March 2nd in Orlando!
