I had my phone interview yesterday at 6:00pm and I believe I blew my chances. It was one of the most awkward interviews I’ve had and I am confident my answers were just awful. He kept asking me about a leadership I had as a freshman and I don’t know why he focused so much on that experience since I have more recent leadership position. I would be surprised if I get invited to go on to the final interview stage. I was so mad at myself yesterday, but today I have accepted the fact that I cannot do anything about it now.
@TFA5thDL2015 - Mine was the same way!.. I felt at ease, but it was still somewhat awkward, especially in the fact that they only concentrated on one area… I was prepared for a more “all-around” interview and to incorporate experience from all areas of my education and career…
By the way, did you folks all get the (optional) survey about the phone interview? Just checking… I got mine today and was just wondering if that’s normal?..
@TeachForNC2015: Yes, I agree. It was definitely not a typical interview, for me at least. I am almost 100% certain I am not getting invited because I 100% bombed all those interview questions.
I also received the optional survey about the phone interview.
By the way, does anyone know what time we will be receiving final interview notifications? I cannot find it anywhere. I supposed around 6pm EST?
Yes, 6pm ET is what it says… My phone interview notification said the same thing though and I actually got notified more like 2:30pm…
I just got the email from Amanda Bass about the corps members experience and it said “Have you started to envision yourself in the classroom? As you continue in the application process, it’s exciting to think about the tremendous work being done in our classrooms and the connection to the broader community. Below you’ll find a variety of resources from the perspectives of students, parents, and teachers focusing on the corps member experience in the classroom. These inspiring narratives will have you picturing yourself there in no time!”
Probably not an indication but I sure hope it is
@BamaBlonde: I also received that same email from Amanda Bass. I received one from her prior to getting invited to the phone interview, so I don’t know what to take out of her second e-mail. Knowing that I tanked my phone interview, I think everyone who did a phone interview received this email.
Thanks, @TeachForNC2015 !! Only about 24 more hours until we all find out!
That’s the way I felt too @TFA5thDL2015
Crossing my fingers for you
Totally freaking out! Just got an invite to a final interview…
Perhaps Friday the 13th is not as bad an omen as I originally thought!..
Let me know how it turned out for you guys!
Congratulations!! I also just got an invite to a final interview! Super excited
@BamaBlonde: Thank you!
I also got invited to a final interview. I guess my interview wasn’t as bad after all. I’m just glad I’ve been given another chance to clarify myself during the final one-on-one interview.
Good luck to us all!
I, too, have received an invitation for a final interview! Best luck to everyone (:
I got an interview invitation. I was comparing green peppers in Walmart and about had a heart attack. Now to decide on a 5 minute lesson topic!! Anyone else interviewing in Indiana?
@marydee: LOL. Maybe you should teach the difference between red and green peppers! haha.
I will be interviewing in Texas.
I just found this thread. I, too, have made it to the final round! I honestly cannot believe it. I am very excited.
I am currently in the Tampa Bay area.
I’ll be interviewing in Tennessee, just in case anyone else is and wants a buddy to quell pre-interview nerves!
Have not read this whole thread, so sorry if this has been mentioned. For those of you who did not make TFA or want to hedge your bets, there is the following–The Citizen Schools National Teaching Fellowship is a paid AmeriCorps national service opportunity for individuals dedicated to directly impacting the futures of middle school students in low income communities across America.
It is similar to TFA. Two years paid, stipend for graduate school to get Masters or payment towards student loans. Equally difficult application process, ie apply, telephone interview, personal interview, teaching demonstration. In addition, I believe TFA does not require this but I may be wrong, there is a timed computer application that has you answer “what if” or “what would you do” scenarios. You are also asked similar questions before a panel of a few after your teaching presentation. And, of course, a back- ground check.
This program started a few years after TFA and is less wide spread. I believe it is an extended school teaching program. I am not sure of all details, but it is worth looking into as another option.
I am so glad this thread exists! And we must make it more active, because ot seems posting on it has meant good things for all the other deadlines!!
Does anyone have a regional preference yet?? If I get accepted I am hoping for social studies in one of the rural, southern regions. Arkansas, Mississippi, Alabama, Appalacia…
@marydee I’m hoping for Charlotte, NC Piedmont, DC, or Newark. I’d love to teach Secondary science.
