Me too, I just finished my lesson plan. It’s time to actually practice it, so I don’t feel silly standing in front of the other interviewees. hehe.
Is everyone still getting e-mails from Molly Brennan (re: Lessons 1-5)? I thought the excel sheet from Lesson 4 comparing the regions was very very helpful. It also made it very convenient to sort out regions by your preferences (ie.master’s program, wage, student population, etc. etc.).
Finished my interview yesterday. It was a nice experience. I really liked the group activity, just be yourself (That’s honestly the best advice I can give lol). The teaching portion wasn’t too bad, I would say plan for a student to get something wrong; how would you redirect?
I really enjoyed my interview experience! I felt very confident and empowered by the other interviewees there with me. Some of us even exchanged numbers so we can meet up to celebrate after the 19th. Good luck to all!!!
So my interview is tomorrow ahhh. Im sitting on my floor putting my posters together and had a thought, you dont have to be specific or whatever, but should I go back.and reread the pre-reading articles? I read them when I did the online activity, but I am not sure how many details I still have…
And now that that’s over i just have some advice. Literally just got done lol. 1. Seriously write your name, objective, all of that before hand. Almost everyone else ate into their teaching time because they didnt.
2. Remember what you said elsewhere.
Literally the only thing that could have gone better were a few parts of the one on one. I misunderstood her once and i literally didnt answer the question one haha.
Sorry, I haven’t had time to type up a review on my final interview. I had my interview on Wednesday and I can finally write some things about it.
Sample teach: I agree with @marydee about having all of those ALREADY completed beforehand. While this portion was exciting, definitely prepare for some wrong answers (as someone already had mentioned). How will you respond to this?
Group activity: Our group had about 12 interviewees and we were divided into 2 separate groups. This activity was very interesting. One piece of advice, DO NOT hog the conversation. While we are aware of this idea, sometimes I guess it just comes out NATURALLY and don’t even realize you’re only having a one way conversation. So, if you’re that type of person. Please please practice to refrain from leading the entire conversation and allow others to speak.
One-on-one: Oh my gawd! I would have to say that this was the BEST part of my interview. SHE WAS A GREAT INTERVIEWER and definitely didn’t make the interview awkward. I can understand that having someone type can be awkward, but she made it very conversational – this is how I know she’s very experienced and has been doing this for a while. We were able to relay information from each other and I enjoyed that very much. It wasn’t only me talking about my experiences, but she also shared her own experiences every time I answered her question. However, it was definitely hard to gauge if she liked me or not but in the end I think my personal interview was positive.
Also, if you read about my previous post re: my phone interview, I am very glad I was able to clarify a lot of ideas that I wasn’t able to put across during my phone interview. I guess having a phone interview worked in my favor because I was able to practice the question styles.
For those who will be having their final interviews, good luck! I know it’s difficult to believe, but seriously don’t sweat it. And, like others have said before (trust me, I also wasn’t a believer then), I can’t believe I actually enjoyed my final interview. Easy to say, hard to believe.
Now, we wait for 2 weeks!!! I had submitted my Transitional Funding so I know it’s going to be crazy for the next couple of days/weeks checking TFA.org for any updates on my TF.
I would suggest too, if you are the kind of person that has issues thinking on your feet, be very clear, plan for a shorter lesson, and have a discussion. Those are the ones that got less questions. Also, time yourself so your lesson is 4 minutes. Its better to be safe because your students will probably take more time than you are budgeting.
And I am going to say that while I did enjoy the process, my one on one definitely went the worst. A couple times I felt like I was rambling and one time I definitely said the absolute wrong thing. But in the end she told me she could hear my passion in my voice, so hopefully that wins out.
Hi all! I’m also a 4th deadliner and I interviewed last week!
I just want to put out there that I completely agree with @marydee about completing your poster with your name, objective, etc. ahead of time. I was the only one in my interview who did that, and I think it made a big difference. It made me look prepared, and I was the only one who didn’t cut into my teaching time!
Second, I’m just wondering whether people seriously think that an updated TF is an early indicator? I got an email on Tuesday that my TF funding app had just been reviewed and they needed an additional document that they hadn’t asked for in the beginning. Do you guys think this counts as an update?!?
Ahhh @marydee, you shouldn’t have told me that! Now I’m all giddy and can’t possibly wait 13 more days!
My interview was on 2/26, and I got the TF email on 3/3.
@marydee: Thanks! I was going to say “great! I can breathe for a week”, but then @unicorncat91 made it more real by telling us his/her awesome update on TF! Gaaahhh!! Now, I am so anxious, nervous, scared, and other mixes of emotions! I am all hyped up and constantly checking my email now. I hope none of my keyboard functions break on me coz I need ALL of them to work for the next 13 daysssssss.
I remember one of the interviewers mention that we can still change our regional preferences. I wonder if today is the deadline for that – I would assume so because today’s the last day of 5DL interviews. Also, can we ONLY change our preference if we’re listing one of those highly needed regions mentioned during the final interview day? Or, can we change it regardless…?
Sorry, @TFA5thDL2015! Didn’t mean to make this misery even worse!
Anyone know if there is a spreadsheet up for 4/5 DL people? I found one back in October for the 1-3 DL people, but it looks like it hasn’t been updated in forever.
