@Coco5945 Me! To both! My preferences are as follows: 1.) San Diego, 2.) Phoenix, 3.) Bay Area, 4.) Washington, 5.) Los Angeles, 6.) Houston, 7.) Colorado, 8.) Las Vegas, 9.) New Mexico, 10.) San Antonio, 11.) Dallas, 12.) Tulsa, 13.) Oklahoma City. Anyone else want to share their preferences? Also, I should mention that I am Corps of 2019 because I applied ED
So I chose Atlanta, Houston, Charlotte, Baltimore, Charlotte, Jersey, Philly, DC, Jacksonville, St Louis, Conn., Kansas City, and New Orleans. It’s not set in stone though. Having to choose ten random cities is insane.
@ayebreezey what is ED?
@SacredMirrorTFA early decision I’m a 2019 Corps member
I chose D.C., Charlotte, New Orleans, Memphis, Washington, St. Louis, Houston, Hawaii, Nashville, Colorado, and Massachusetts! There are so many choices and I have no idea where they’ll place me.
Hi everyone- I got accepted last deadline and just got reassigned (yes, reassignments are possible, but rarely) to Bay Area. First off, congrats! Second, I really want to stress not putting any city you won’t be excited to see pop up. Also, think about what is most important to you. If your heart is set on a certain subject, then you might have to settle for a region that is less attractive to you, but will probably guarantee your subject. If you’re really set on something harder to get like Social Science, put Detroit or Rio Grande. Really set on a region? Then get ready to teach math or science! The choice is up to you, and you only!
Oh also, I would highly suggest substitute teaching before you start, if this is any way possible. I know the next two years are not going to be easy for me, but I’ve been subbing for a little over a year, and I’ve learned so much. I’ve gotten to learn from hundreds of teachers about different teaching/discipline/reward styles. I’m way more comfortable leading a classroom now, as well.
@TFASR2018 Hi THANK YOU FOR THAT INFRO.My question is how often do special circumstances get honored.I have a child otw so I highly preferred the region my family is in but it also happens to be a highly preferred region.Im qualified to teach all subjects and it’s high needs subjects are exactly what I highly preferred.What do you think?
I got an interview!!! While this is definitely just a small step, I’m incredibly excited and am so happy!! I can’t wait to get started with this whole process!! (:
Its been a while…CONGRATS to everyone who got in!! For those doing preferences, I have a quick question: I plan to put three regions in “less preferred”. When I rank them within that category, should the one I like the least be ranked 1 or 3?
@beachnboho The one you like the least should be the last-place ranking within that category, so in your case it should be #3 within less preferred!
Hi @Ranza123 I am from suburbs of Chicago and really want to be placed in Chicago! I majored in Biology undergrad so would love to teach math or science and I don’t care what age…my deadline is tonight and i put Chicago as my first highly preferred region. I know its last minute but if you have any tips they’d be greatly appreciated. Thanks!
@TFASR2018 If you dont mind me asking, when/why are reassignments given? Just curious if it’s something you requested or something they decided. Thanks!
Hi @megk11 I’m so glad to hear you want to be placed in Chicago! I think they give a slight preference to people who are from that area originally, so that could help you out! And I think being open to what you teach will help also. If Chicago is by far your top choice, you could always make it your only highly preferred region, but then you would have to be sure you would be just about equally happy with all of the regions left in your “preferred” category. I think they take the overall categories into primary consideration and then from there look at the individual rankings within the category, if that makes sense.
I don’t know how many more corps members the Chicago region needs for next year, since this is the last deadline. But I think that if you’re eligible to teach math/science in Chicago and since you’re from the area, you’ll have a good shot of getting placed there if they need more people!
So whoever has applied for funding, has TFA asked you to show bank statements for your savings/checking?
@goblueeeeeee I applied for it and they asked for proof of my savings/checking. I just attached screenshots from my account off of my laptop and they verified it. Hope that helps!
Morning, everyone! I am preparing for my interview and am wondering if you have been through it already, you might be willing to share how the group discussion went. Were the issues discussed difficult Catch-22s? How big are the groups, and did you feel like people were trying to outshine others? Thanks, I’m just nervous and want to be prepared as possible!!
@hopingfortfa2019 for the group discussion, I don’t think they really care what position you take on an issue; I think they more care about how you work in groups and whether you did the readings they sent and can cite examples and details from them during the discussion. That’s just my guess, though! And whether or not people in your group work together well/try to outshine each other will depend on your group. My group worked fine together, but even if your group doesn’t seem to be working well, be the one person in your group who’s a team player. Overall, the group portion doesn’t take very long and was probably the least memorable part for me. Don’t stress!
@Ranza123 Thank you so much! That is very helpful information.
Anybody nervous about region placement and and assignments? Lol
@goldenbear17 me! What was your #1 choice?
