Teach For America - 2020 Corps

Accepted to Atlanta!

Accepted to New York!!!

Accepted to New York!!!

What subjects were y’all assigned to? I was assigned to teach special education in Greater Boston. I’m hoping to change my subject placement if possible, because I wanted to join so TFA could pay for a certification for teaching high school

It says I had Biology 7-12, Special Education 7-12… is that two placements? I’m not fully sure. I’m happy with Biology though, and hoping to do Biology 7-9th grade

Mine is Elementary ! Not my first choice but still excited

Is anyone planning on accepting the offer yet? I’m pretty certain I am going to do so.

I got accepted to teach middle grades w/ English emphasis in Greater Philadelphia!

I put in my re-assignment request, so if I get re-assigned then I’ll be accepting. If not, I’m declining.

I am also declining if I don’t get reassigned. I guess we shall see.

I’m leaning towards declining right now, but I’m not sure yet. I’m very apprehensive about working in special education with just 5 weeks of training, and I’m a little scared about being placed in a charter school / the things I’m seeing about TFA being an arm of the charter school movement… guess I should’ve learned this stuff earlier, but we will see lol.

@tfa2020 do you have any other assignment or was it only special education? I was told today that though I am assigned to Biology & Special Education, it’s not that I’ll be teaching Special Education, but that I’ll need the certification as some general classes have students who qualify as SPED in them as well (this includes students with ADD, Dyslexia, etc). So, the certification in SPED is needed so that you can properly engage with all the students in your classroom. So if SPED is not your only placement, it could be a similar situation to mine.

@TFA0128 Where did you get assigned/ why don’t you want to stay there? Just me being curious!

@drehall , SPED is my only placement. That is really nice that they have given you something a little more specific! My region told me that I could be placed in any subject from grades 1-12, and that I will be working with students who have moderate disabilities. I likely would not know for several months what grade level/subject I would be placed in. I definitely don’t mind getting a SPED certification or working with disabled students. However I am not comfortable being placed in a fully SPED classroom by myself with just 5 weeks of training, and that is a possibility with my placement.

I got re-assigned to Denver!!! Special Education. So beyond happy.

Congrats @Sbennett9291 !

Anyone else planning on declining? I filled out all my information to decline today and the button to submit doesn’t work… TFA, please let me out lol. Wondering if anyone else had this issue.

Hi, anyone on here Interview last week and waiting for a decision on December 4th? I’d love to hear your feedback!

Also, does anyone know if choices for classroom preferences affect whether or not you get accepted? I selected many “low preference” because I studied English in college and not sure how I would make out teaching Math, Biology or things like that.

Hey guys, did anyone have trouble filling out the classroom and region eligibility form? For example, how were credits reflected? for some reason I can’t pick any region because of college course work? I have a GPA of 3.97 in education courses so not sure how this works. Thoughts?

Hey @alexsant820, from what I’ve understood your choices for classroom preferences have no bearing on your acceptance. Hope this helps.
