Teach for America-Early Application 2016 corps

Had my interview today, I feel like it went well! (Or at least I hope it did!) Good luck to all other interviewees over the coming days. It was great to move forward with the process. Now it’s time to stress about the decision until May 7th, hahah.

@gsalicki‌ congrats!!!

@wayyyyyyover9000‌ Good luck with your interview tomorrow! I’m sure you’ll do really well!

I had my interview today. I think it went really well so just hoping for the best! I hate that we have to wait so long for the decision though. The lesson plan part really isn’t bad so don’t stress too much! After that is over, the rest of the day goes by quickly and was actually fun! If anyone has any questions, I’d be happy to answer them! Good luck to everyone who has their interviews this week!

What was your lesson if you don’t mind me asking! and did the interviewers ask you questions during it? how was the group activity? I’m so excited for you (us) for this opportunity, May 7th can’t come soon enough!

Did anyone have a final interview in nyc recently?

@9194tigers‌ I taught 2nd grade math and came up with games for the whole class. The interviewers didn’t ask me any questions during my lesson but asked a few other applicants questions, pretending to be the student. So for example, they would pretend to be a kindergartner and ask the “teacher” a question. They only did this if there was extra time left in the 5 minute period. The group activity wasn’t stressful at all. We were given a situation with two difficult choices and just had to talk it out with our group and write our choice/reasoning on a piece of paper. There is no right answer, just what your opinion is. Good luck with your interview! I’m sure you’ll be great!

thank you so much!! I’m sure you did awesome, hopefully we’ll end up in the Corps together!

@9194tigers no problem! Fingers crossed for the both of us!

did my interview today and it was actually tons of fun! so dont stress too much:) but ughhhh guys we have to wait an entire month before we find out

@teach4america How do you feel about your final interview? I’m a bit nervous because I was told that tfa is much more selective with their junior applicants since they can just reapply later on. If I’m not admitted into the program I know it’ll be because of the final interview, everything else went great, I really enjoyed myself too.

i thought it went really well- though it did take me a few minutes to get into a good rhythm and connect with my interviewer during the one-on-one interview. @ClayRod i know that for the “normal” applicants the admission rate is about 11-15%, and i wish i knew what the junior acceptance is… though it makes sense that junior deadline would be more intensive…

I also feel that my interview went really well! The other applicants commented that they really liked my lesson plan, and I feel like my one-on-one interview went well because I went into a lot of personal information about myself that I feel has inspired me to teach.

I really wish I knew what would have someone be rejected. A lot of the blogs I checked out online said that people whose 5 min lesson went over the allotted time weren’t invited into the program despite everything else being ok, but that seems a bit ridiculous imo

That does seem a little ridiculous, but then, most people in my interview stuck within the time limit. I can only think of two applicants who went over in a noticeable way, and their lessons had other weaknesses besides just time management.

Hi all! So glad I found this forum – anyone applying for Education 4 Justice? Also, are we being notified April 23 or May 7? I’ve seen both dates online. So excited and hoping for good news

@teacher13 Hey  and yeah I sent in my application for E4J a few weeks ago, I’m really interested in their program. II thought that we were going to be notified on the 23rd as well, and saw that was for 2015 applicants. For 2016 early deadline, we find out on May 7th. Where do you hope to be placed and what subject do you want to teach?

@ClayRod Hello! I’ll be submitting my app for E4J today or tomorrow – it seems like a really awesome opportunity. From what I understand the summer welcome locations vary based off of what I see from 2015 Early Deadliners have posted. As for my final TFA placement I’m hoping to teach somewhere on the East Coast (I’m from CA) or somewhere in CA. I’d like to teach High School or Middle School English/Social Studies. What about you?

@teacher13 Hey! I’m also applying for E4J, about to send in my application now. The enrichment available through an opportunity such as this one over the course of an entire schoolyear seems so worthwhile. I can’t wait to hear back about my decision! It’ll be really nice to get to meet some likeminded folks over the summer, too! Good luck applying

@gsalicki I agree! Seems like a really great program that has the potential to set you right up for teaching. Really excited to find out soon (it can’t come fast enough, ha!)
