I have been corresponding by email with one of the teachers who's writing my recs, and she has always been calling me by my correct name.......... until the email she just sent me-- she called me the wrong name! (It was the equivalent of putting Alexis instead of Alexa.) She used this name more than once in the same email, so it was not a typo.

I'm really worried that she has made that mistake in the letter of recommendation! And colleges won't think she knows me very well. However, I know for a fact that she did write the letter about a month ago (when she was still calling me by the correct name), and this email was received this week.

Should I worry about that? What should I do???

Don't worry about it. And don't email her asking. If you're really obsessed with it, ask her if you may read it - but even that sounds suspicious.

Ahh, I wouldn't ask her that. Thanks for the help, though.

maybe its your pet name? :)

No, it definitely isn't. Trust me. It's a whole different (and kind of ugly) name! :D

when you gave her a stamped envelope to send to colleges, didn't you put your name on it for a return address? i think colleges would figure it out...

also, alexis to alexa is really not that big of a deal...

Well, I don't want to put my actual name on here, but the way she messed it up, it could no way be construed as a diminutive. It is obviously a different name. (i.e. the same amount of letters/syllables, but different.)

I put the teacher's name as a return address. But I did write my name on the forms and stuff to be filled out. I'm not worried about the college not knowing who I am; I'm worried about the implications of them knowing that my own teacher (of a few years) putting my name incorrectly.

Admissions people might raise an eyebrow or two if it's really different than your name.

But if it can be seen as a nickname, then you should be fine. Remember, Admin staff only get a few minutes with each app. They'll look for substance, to see what the teacher thought about you and how the teacher feels about your ability to grow, learn, succeed, etc.

You don't want to put your actual name on here? So, I'm assuming that your real name isn't Kristina? :/

One of S's teachers spelled his last name wrong on his rec, but just slightly. I didn't worry about it, neither did he.

"You don't want to put your actual name on here? So, I'm assuming that your real name isn't Kristina? :/"

Correct.

RobertKKap, I'm pretty sure it can NOT be seen as a nickname!

'rentof2, that's slightly reassuring.
