I am helping a friend's daughter with her UMD application.

It was my understanding that teacher recommendations are sent electronically with the transcript through edocs/Naviance.
When she arrived at the page in the app, it instructed her to provide teacher contact info so UMD can contact the teachers directly and instruct them how to submit recs electronically.....

Very confused.....does anyone know the correct procedure?

Son is applying there too, and he printed off a sheet and brought it to the guidance counselor. Counselor/teacher fill out sheet and attach the letter and it is sent through with the transcripts. Seems easier that way.

Recommendations and other required parts of the application can be sent to the college in different ways.

She can either enter in her teacher’s and counselor’s information on the provider list, or she can completely ignore that and use the paper option.

It’s best to have the teacher submit their recommendation online and have the counselor do it/send it by mail (paper) with the transcript.

I called the other day and they said either way. If you send teacher recs through the mail, you still have to put the teacher name online in the app - just don’t put an email address or it won’t accept the reference.

^^thanks all for clearing up the confusion; my student tried to hit submit yesterday without filling out the teacher rec info (as suggested) but was not permitted to…

When the teacher rec stuff is filled out, there is an option to check off that teacher recs will be submitted offline. ( didn’t realize that when thread was started)

What makes this ultimately more confusing (resolved now) is that UMD is now on edocs which automatically sends recs through Naviance…so this is all unnecessary if your HS is using edocs…

Just sent off UMD application. Noticed something weird. On the PDF that you can print just before you submit, the reference names didn’t show up. I went back into his application and they are listed there, but they didn’t print out. Did this happen to anyone? I think it is because they are listed as ‘offline’ providers but would like to make sure.

Offline providers did not print preview for my student either…I didn’t call to ask because recommendations are being sent through edocs/Naviance.(and it was a Saturday)…not sure why UMD needs to know in advance, anyway, who is sending recs…kind of a weird request if the student is taking care of it on their own…
