Must the teachers send them directly to the school or can the applicant collect them from the teachers in signed and sealed envelopes and then forward them to UMd ? Thanks. MBJ

My son's school put the teacher recs in with the transcript and counselor rec and sent them all together as one big packet.

The UMD application says:
"Have your school counselor send the completed School Counselor and Teacher recommendation forms directly to the Office of Undergraduate Admissions, Mitchell Building, College Park, MD 20742. When possible, we request that all materials be sent from the guidance office."

My d gave her teachers a stamped addressed envelopes so they could send letters directly to UMD. She's been able to check application status online and can see the letters have arrived (though the transcript and counselor rec haven't yet).

Thanks for the above replies. I checked with UMd this morning. They said that it was perfectly fine for the applicant to send them into the school as long as they are in sealed and signed envelopes. Pretty much what I thought. With tens of thousands of applications, they don't apparently care how they got various documentaiton. Don't blame them.
