<p>From what I remember from the RU website, recommendations matter not one bit. The optional essay, however, is reviewed for merit scholarship consideration.</p>
<p>University Merit Awards</p>
<p>Eligibility:</p>
<p>University Merit Award recipients are selected from among admitted students based on distinction in a variety of factors, including high school courses and grades, results of standardized test scores, extracurricular activities, awards, honors, and the required application essay.</p>
<p>Annual Award and Terms:</p>
<p>These awards of varying amounts are renewable for up to three years provided that the award recipient maintains specified levels of academic achievement. </p>
<p>It looks like they don't consider recs. If you really want to send it though, it can't hurt and its not too big of a deal to send out a letter if it will make you feel better. :)</p>
