My daughter submitted her application for U of Michigan Stamps School for early action on time on Oct. 31. Common App indicated that the teachers and GC had started their recommendation letters. On Nov. 1 the GC submitted her stuff. But it took the teachers 3 days to figured out that they did not submit the letters on the Common App properly and finally got the letters in today. My D just found out that U-M downloaded her application on Nov.2. Now we are panicking. Does anyone know if U-M will receive her teachers’ rec after my D’s application has been downloaded?
Call the admissions office asap and see. I think they would still review them, schools that require all materials be in by deadline usually explicitly state that - I would also check their website.
Your daughter can email her admissions officer to let him/her know the LOR was submitted two days late and ask if it can (or will) be included in her file when it is reviewed (it wouldn’t hurt to apologize for any inconvenience this may cause). Keep the email short and sweet.
Many schools will give some leeway for a late LOR since the submission is out of the applicant’s hands.
Thank you! Just called U-M. The teachers need to send the letters by email. U-M is super nice about it. Hopefully, D will get in. This is her dream school.
They will accept the letters of course, the issue will be if they put your D’s app in the EA or RD round. That is what your D needs to ultimately find out.
Once the letters show up as received in her portal, she should see if her app is in the EA or RD round (also shown in portal). If RD, she and/or her HS GC should have another conversation with Michigan admissions. Good luck.
