I'm scheduled for phase I on tomorrow, July 9th. Does it make a difference what time in the 24-hour registration period I register for classes? Should I attempt to register ASAP or is it harmless to wait until a convenient time, AKA a couple hours after my registration appointment begins?

I'm an incoming freshman by the way. Thanks for the info!

You can wait if you want. Once your appointment hits, you can do whatever you want until the end of Phase I, adding up to 10.5 units, and dropping in favor or another. When you get to the upper division, it’s cut throat, and every second counts to try to fulfill major requirements, or desired classes

So right now I won’t have a problem registering for Math 1A and maybe a discovery or computer science class or something a couple hours late since none of it is upper division?

It really depends on your major. For physical science and engineering majors, it’s the exact opposite of what lonesoul said. Lower division classes (especially those with labs) are really hard to get into, and the upper division classes are pretty easy to get into.

Ok thanks. I think I should have pointed out my special situation in that I never went to CalSO because I chose not to get ripped off nearly $300. Am I last of the last either way to register? Will there be competition in the first few minutes to register for undergraduate classes or has almost everyone already registered?

Edit: The reason I’m asking isn’t because I’m freaking out, but because I’m trying to decide if I need to be at my PC at my exact appointment time because I have something else to do at 2 PM that I’m willing to cancel if I have to.

look at the specific classes that you want and see the number of enrolled vs the number of available seats and waitlist seats. If it’s near capacity, waiting a few hours might hurt your chances of into the class, but then again since your appointment time is on the weekend, the numbers aren’t accurate and they might already be filled anyway. Use phase I to get into the 2 highest priority classes to you that are still available
