Thanks

I lived in barr last year! right next to allen :)

Food is roughly a five-minute walk. The dining hall and campus center, where you can pay for food, are right next to each other.

Parties are on college ave. You’ll have to take a bus.

The gym is the Werblin rec center. It’s close to 10 minutes walking distance.

Busch is VERY safe. Walking to my dorm late at night was no problem.

You can walk to the bus stop within five minutes. One is right by the Buell apartments, and the other is by Busch Campus Center.

You’ll have a great time, the BAMM dorms are awesome :)

Awesome news, I lucked out.

Hows the food? Is it a buffet sort of deal? Is it high quality and a diverse variety? Can I bring it out of the cafeteria and bring some to the dorm?

P.S.

Drexeler, you are awesome. You answered about 99% of my questions with relevant and helpful advice. Kudos.

JP,
I was in Allen Hall last year and it’s everything drexeler said. The food is pretty good, there’s usually at least one thing there that you’ll probably like (and I’m a picky eater). I wouldn’t say high quality home cooking, but it gets the job done. You can’t just grab a tray and walk out with the food but I’m sure if you’re clever, you could bring some back to the dorm There’s also takeout, which is a different set of food for each day of the week (for example, Chicken Nuggets and Fries on Wednesdays were my favorite)

Anymore questions, feel free to ask

I’ll try to be tricky and sneak some grub in the dorm hehe.

Speaking of the dorm, how are the rooms? Are the beds large? Closets? Desks, etc?

Also, is the gym membership free for students? What times are the peak hours, AKA, most packed? When is it empty?

Lastly, move in day is on the 28th. What are some items I need to bring?

Thanks guys

As cerps said, the food was good. Busch is a big campus, so the dining hall has a lot of variety. If you’re vegetarian or vegan, they have lots of food for you, and during holidays they had the relevant food. It was kinda funny, on passover they had a table for passover food. The food on Busch is really good during the week, but they don’t offer much on the weekends.

(My dorm explanation is more relevant to Barr, so cerps might know more about Allen than I do)
The dorm is huge, 18 feet long and 12 feet wide. My roommate and I had no problem with space or anything. The beds are twin-xl. They are raised a little bit, so you can store things under your bed, no need to bring bed risers. The closets are built-in, no door/curtain, so it’s quick and easy to store things. The desks were nice, they had lots of drawers. You’ll also get a dresser in addition to your closet. The only weird-ish thing was the layout: it’s a little asymmetrical, so one bed is by the door and closets, and the other is more by the window. If you want to see the design, you can join this site and find exactly how Allen is arranged:

Last year, Allen was the “model dorm” on Busch. It was the dorm that gets shown to tourists on the weekends, so the carpets/paint and other aesthetics are a little nicer than Barr’s.

The gym is free, you just have to swipe in with your id card. It gets really crowded during the evening. The mornings are probably much emptier.

Congrats on getting housed on Busch and in a BAMM dorm! That alone can be quite an achievement lol.
