Telling colleges you're taking APs...and not taking em?!?

If you write down on a college app that you plan on taking certain AP tests on the spring of your senior year, are you making in obligation? If you get accepted into the college, do you have to take those tests in May and send it to the college, or can you change your mind about taking the test and be fine?

I'm asking this because I want to submit my app this weekend, but I'm not sure which physics AP exam I'll be taking. Is it okay to write that I'll be taking both physics c exams, with the possibility that I might not be?

Thanks!

don’t lie about it. If you get caught your admission can be revoked. I doubt it will happen but it can happen.

i know how you feel… i could end up taking six AP tests this year, but I might not be able to from a financial standpoint. it’s pretty hard to guess right now what subjects i’ll be good at, you know?

if you’re back in school already have you asked your counselor this question? my guess is that if you end up not taking both physics tests you could just report it on the mid-year report without it being too big of a deal.

also, congrats on finishing your app so early! that’s pretty impressive

Ok thanks. I don’t want to lie about anything, but on the course description it says “this class should prepare students for the Physics C exam”. I want to assume this means both C exams, but if it doesn’t, I don’t wanna have to take em both in May.

So basically, if I write that I’ll be taking both exams, I have to take them both or risk having my admission rescinded?

Thanks!

Why do you want to put on the applications which exams you’re going to take? If you are taking AP classes just put that on the application as part of your senior year schedule.

The course description at my son’s HS says Physics C mechanics. At my son’s school you either take Honors Physics which is like Physics B(non-calculus) or you take Physics C-Mechanics. Both are the only Physics classes he can take, one or the other, not both. If you have already had a year of HS Physics, then it’s probably more likely Physics C will be both mechanics and e&m.

What level of colleges are you thinking about?

^ On my application it asks for which tests I’ll be taking in the future too. University of Michigan is my top choice.
