Telluride Interview

I know that there are several Telluride semifinalists on CC. I was wondering if you had already done your interview, as mine is tomorrow. What did they ask you? Did you do it by phone or by video? Any suggestions?

Anybody???

Just curious to see how everyone feels about their Telluride interview...how did it go?

I had mine last night and it went pretty smoothly. I did it by phone and it lasted for close to one hour. There were five interviewers on the other end. They asked questions primarily about my five essays. I was not expecting any questions on my fifth essay (you were supposed to write a paper on something that interested you), and was surprised by that. The questions were all very good and very deep; I had to really think on some of them. I was surprised by a few of them, such as the first one: "Is there a societal norm you'd like to see changed?" I did get stuck on a few questions as the interview wore on because I was getting tired.
I would recommend having a soda or coffee next to you. You get really thirsty and tired. Also, I would find a way to turn up the volume of your phone because at times, I could barely hear the interviewers.

Is it true that decisions come out today? maguo1, did they give you an indication of how you would be notified? My D is flying there today for the Shipman weekend, and I was wondering how/when they would let her know if she got in to Telluride House...

No, they gave no indication. They just said they would contact me late March or early april. Did your daughter also apply for Telluride? How did her interview go?

Yes, she applied - she is also a TASP alum, and really enjoyed that whole experience. The interview went OK, although she wasn't really talkative about it, but she seemed to enjoy it and thought the interviewers were very good. It lasted exactly one hour, and she was mentally tired (which is a good thing, they really asked challenging questions). I read on the website that the decisions were being made today.

I liked the interview, even if I was not able to give great answers for all the questions. Almost all the questions regarded my essays, except for a few "fun" ones at the end.

I just checked the website and I guess you're right, Mom. Well, tell us when you find out. Best of luck to all.

Anybody hear back yet? I haven't; does this mean that I didn't make it?

I haven't either--I'd wait 'til the end of the week to assume anything.

Mom of three, I hear your D already got in. Does that mean that sonar and I didn't get in?

Maguo1 - she received a phone call and an email offering her a spot on Saturday, the 25th. I know that some got wait-listed, too, because she was in Michigan for Shipman weekend, and heard from some of the others that they had been wait-listed.

So, does that mean I got rejected? I guess neither Sonar nor I have recieved anything. Congrats to her!
Do you also know how many people got in/waitlisted/rejected?

Anybody else hear?

I'm in. totally excited!

When did you find out? I'm guessing that Sonar and I didn't get in. But we can reapply next year, correct?

Saturday night by phone as well. Yeah, you can reapply as a current student every year as well.

Congrats! You'll love it at the house. There are some of the coolest and most interesting people there.

I'll be there for free meals next year, so you'll see me around as well!

Awesome, supergravity!
Are you are transfer student? Or a current house member?
