We think my son is eligible for the Presidential Scholarship as well. Do you need to fill out the FAFSA before you’ll see that award anywhere? I noticed on his Temple portal page that if you click on View your Current Financial Aid Letter that it takes you to a page that says you need to submit the FAFSA. For some reason I was under the impression that you’d find out about merit scholarships without having to submit the FAFSA. Anyone know for sure?
@adlgel - My understanding is that we find out about merit scholarships with the receipt of the admission letter (not the email but the hard copy of the letter). However, it was Temple’s policy, at one point, that all students need to submit a FAFSA unless paying full fare. I do not know if that is still true. Either way, we will find out without a FAFSA
Thanks, that’s what I thought as well and I did assume we had to submit a FAFSA to actually receive the scholarship, just didn’t think we needed to submit it to even find out we’re eligible. Guess we’ll find out in a few weeks when the letter arrives. Also, out of curiosity, does an email come to announcing acceptance? My son just happened to check the portal and noticed it now said he was accepted but he hasn’t gotten an email indicating acceptance.
^No. Temple only changes the status on the portal. We have not received an email and neither did my older daughter.
no fafsa needed for merit aid… Coming from parent of kid who has a scholarship at Temple
and wow, the stats on some of tehse kids are amazing!!! Can’t believe Temple’s growth in last few years! Cherry on!!!
The draw of good merit scholarship money is very powerful for attracting qualified students. But . . . aside from the merit money, Temple’s reputation as a quality education is definitely on the rise. I continue to hear very positive endorsements from parents whose students go there and from students themselves. We initially considered it as a safety school for our son, with the location and concerns about safety issues in the area surrounding the campus being the primary reason it wasn’t a school we were more actively encouraging our son to place higher on his list. We’ve changed our tune on that for sure.
totally agree with above poster. my kid is sophomore who could have had lots of college options had he pursued them. He quickly settled on Temple due to scholarship, school vibe when he visited, and several other reasons i won’t post here cause this post might never end.
At any rate, he is thriving at Temple academically. the honors classes give him the chance to interact with other for lack of a better word braniac kids in a small setting, something he did not get enough of in high school. it is clear these kids are all rubbing off on each other too(i have picked up on this when my son talks to me about his classes) so the honors part of Temple has blossomed even more, it is also clear Temple got on kids’ radar due to scholarship options.
all the Temple student body is proud they are moving up academically in teh national eye, they are proud of their sports teams(kind of a new thing for them there), and they are in Philly, for crying out loud, not a bad city for college and only a short subway ride to Center city.
So for those of you who choose Temple, welcome!!! Cherry on and see you next year! and best of luck to all applicants in your college pursuits!
Got my acceptance through the portal today! Hoot hoot! Now just waiting for that envelope!
Temple got my last remaining item(SAT Sores) last Friday so I am now under review. Just curious- how long after your applications were complete did you receive a decision?
Sent mine 10/15, got my acceptance today. @Philly97
Son was accepted on portal today, so exciting!!! Stats- 2180 1450 cr/m 4.0 UW 5.4w hoping for fox business honors… @Philly97 app was complete on portal Oct 19 so 4 weeks? A Big thank you to all the Temple parents that have been replying on the Temple CC threads its been very helpful!
Thanks, looks like I’ll have to be a little patient. Congrats on the acceptances!
Curious if anyone has received their actual letter yet. I know @BlueHen89 's son got their acceptance via the portal almost a month ago so wondering if the letters have started to go out.
He just received his Temple acceptance today!
They have a very cute series of pictures on Instagram, the caption says “We sent out some pretty important mail this week…”
@BlueHen89 did he receive the scholarship information in the letter? was it in line with the SAT/Grade matrix they have on their website?
We’re anxious to see the stats of kids who get the different scholarships. There’s a big gap between S’ s weighted
and unweighted gpa due to all the classes except PE being either honors or AP. I think he’s got a decent shot at the second highest scholarship, and a shot at the top one (his weighted is 3.95, but unweighted is just under 3.3. SAT is well over the cutoff for Presidential. I’m trying to prepare him for the possibility that he may not get a big enough scholarship for it to be affordable.
