Sorry, I am such a newbie at this. If a college has the option for Early Decision (Deadline 11/15/10) under Fall 2011 and then Regular Decision (Deadline 11/15/10) under Spring 2011, what's the difference between the two? What does the Fall and Spring signify? Aside from seasons >.>

I’m assuming there’s a third option to apply to for Regular Decision for Fall 2011. Basically, Early Decision is a binding commitment that says that if you’re accepted to the school, you will be obligated to attend and will withdraw all other applications/acceptances. Generally, you’ll only do this if you’re absolutely sure that the school is your number one choice (or a better choice than any other college).

If there’s a Regular Decision for Spring, it would entail you starting there in January 2011. If you are going to be in high school then, do not check it. Choose RD for Fall, or ED if you’re 100% sure its your first choice AND you don’t need a lot of financial aid (you’ll get the same RD or ED, but with ED you can’t compare offers).
