I recently earned an acceptance into Honors and the Presidential Scholarship at Temple University. This made me very excited, but it came about an hour before my stats test which I then proceeded to bomb. Going into that test, I thought I was around A/B range, but now I know that it is now around B/C. My grades this semester aren’t bad outside of that (A’s in elective courses, B in Honors English, A in Honors Gov, and an A and a B in a couple community college courses), but I am completely terrified that potentially getting a C in this class will kill my chances at admissions into other schools and, more importantly, my scholarship. I have a 34 ACT and had a 3.91 unweighted/4.4 weighted going into this semester. I’m also taking winter classes to attempt to bring my grades up. If my academic GPA dips below 3.8 this semester, will Temple revoke my scholarship?
Hello, while I can’t answer your question directly, I have the exact same concern as you do. I’m afraid I will lose my scholarships or acceptances to colleges if my grades drop from last year (which they will). I have heard that the drop has to be fairly significant to cause a college to revoke something, but for colleges that will view first semester grades as part of the application, it is concerning. I have a 33 ACT score and a 3.92 GPA, and I also received the Presidential Scholarship and was accepted into the Honors program. I had all As last year, but this semester I am looking at potentially three Bs (in Calculus 2, Physics C, and AP English).
It seems to me that Temple would not revoke the scholarships as long as your overall highs school GPA stays above a 3.8, and I do not think a C would cause that to happen.
I think that you would have to get multiple Cs and Bs for something to be revoked, but I do not know anything for sure, that is just my opinion.
Just try not to stress too much about it, it will all be okay in the end I’m sure! You have great test scores and GPA, and hopefully colleges can see past one C. And if they can’t, then it is what it is. Just do your best, and let everything fall where it will. That is what I am telling myself anyways.
You’re 7 semesters in, honestly one C is going to have very little effect on your GPA. Don’t worry about it. Besides, Temple uses weighted GPA (although they weight it in their own way).
