Texas A&M Class of 2027 Official Thread

Mays have always been first come first served basis (not the other departments). So don’t wait.

@ChristiR93 @FriscoDad Thank you both for your feedback! We’ll have him finish up his application and send off this weekend.

I thought all departments were first come, first serve after being admitted. They’re not? Could A&M admit you but a department/college refuse you and pass you along to a different college that will take you?

Nooo except Engineering, it’s first come basis. No major looks at the applicant for placement.

Undergraduate admission is only reviewed by Admission Office so there is no passing student along by departments.

All review-admit students will go through two reviews if apply early. If apply near deadline there may be just one review. Review will mainly be considering if accepting the student to TAMU. If the first choice is full then will see if second is full, if both full then offer something else. In some sense, yes there is an “early bird gets the worm” if students are qualified. The rest of review admit still better apply early so earning two reviews or may be getting Blinn offers.

Engineering have an early decision deadline of October so for sure first review between October and December, those apply late close to deadline will likely only get one review. If students are top 10% automatic likely it doesn’t matter (theoretically top 10% automatic engineering can finish application one day before deadline)

Mays is the only school that put into words that is “first come first served”.

Sounds complicating but if you look at the work flow, the way TAMU process admission is the most budget oriented aka tax-payer saving.

Hi Friscodad. Daughter finished her app last week. First choice Biomedical engineering, second choice originally MIS now changed to Biomedical science.

Do you know the ETAM results this year? How competitive it is? What’s the best way to prepare for ETAM?

Her stats
10.2% (review admit)
SAT 1420 (670/750) ACT 34
12 APs mostly science, 6 of them 5s the rest are 4s.

I know she should have no problem getting admitted, just worry about ETAM. Especially other colleges like UTD admit directly to majors.

Yes your daughter stats should have no issue getting in TAMU, ACT looks exceptional!
Since you mentioned this is the fourth Aggie, apply FAFSA in early October and you will get surprising grants from TAMU.

ETAM data for Spring 2022 will be released shortly, the rise of auto GPA to 3.75 forced a lot of holistic review. For Spring 2021 when auto-GPA was 3.5 BMEN had 106 auto-1st choice out of 177 first choice applicants. Holistic review 1st-choice accepted 35 out of 71 so in short, 141 accepted to BMEN. For 2022, it would still be around 140 accepted, just fewer auto-1st choice and more holistic 1st-choice. Definitely no BMEN second-choice acceptance.

ETAM is reviewed by departments so raising the bar in GPA simply means departments need to do more work vetting the applicants.

One important note is even though TAMU claims 90% ETAM applicants got their first two choices, this was not equal to percentage of their applying majors. For instance, someone originally applying for Computer Science, but after a disastrous Fall ETAM semester, may change to ELEN or CPEN as first choice during ETAM application because they saw slim chance of admission (CS 342 out of 351 were auto 1st choice in 2021)

So obviously keeping up the GPA is important. ETAM focus on two Engineering classes, two sciences and two Maths so something can be done in 12th grade to make ETAM more manageable. I messaged you the strategy separately as it may be too long to discuss here.

If you are willing to share, I’d be grateful for the 12th grade strategy to make ETAM more manageable!

TAMU a/c is now activated.- about 40 hours after receiving email with UIN

Ahh, gotcha. I’m old😂
Still can’t apply for Housing tho? Admissions has really switched things up this year.

Is there a major at A&M that is similar to RTF at UT?

Telecommunication media studies perhaps.

When do we do the housing application? Does anyone have an update? Do you have to wait to be accepted.

Housing should open soon. But only for accepted students.

Today is first “move-in” day for Freshmen class of 2026. Housing Phase 1 for admitted class of 2027 students will likely start after current cycle is closed, may be next week.

Is anyone having a hard time sending SAT scores through college board to different universities. I’ve called college board twice now and they keep telling me they’re having technical difficulties and we can send our scores over the phone if we wanted to.

To add to how things are processing this application cycle…

Our son submitted TAMU application (via apply Texas) on Monday late evening.

He was able to create his NetID on Thursday evening (he’d received error messages about his birthday up until then. Called help desk and they said to give it a couple of days for the system to update). He immediately linked his SRAR and requested documents from his counselor. (he sent test scores in June and they were associated with green check)

Friday afternoon, the AIS still showed an X next to SRAR and class rank, but he could see that the counselor documents had been uploaded, but were not marked received.

This morning (Saturday), he has checks next to SRAR and class rank. Counselor documents are received, he has 7 tabs on Howdy and his 1st major on AIS changed from MEEN to Engineering Review.

When trying to login to the housing portal, he gets a login error.

He is in top 10%.

All of that is great info. And congrats on admissions. Hopefully engineering review will yield the same result!

Thanks for sharing.
