So I missed the boat for auto admits into business schools out of high school, and only now do I learn that a lot of business schools are insanely competitive. I spent a lot of time thinking I was going to do engineering, but ended up deciding to change majors and thought business wouldn’t be any more competitive than engineering. Then I learned that A&M’s business school only takes 100 transfer students a year, UT’s only takes 77. I wasn’t too worried about getting in with engineering, but after seeing these numbers for business I’m a bit worried now.
I finished an associates in software development at a technical school where only psychology and English transfer, but that prevents me from applying as a freshman, so I am currently at a community college doing some basics and getting the requirements to transfer to a university. The problem is I have no idea where to go now. My sights had been set on A&M for so long and I really want to go there, but with them only accepting 100 per year, my hopes aren’t very high. I have some pretty bad grades back from like 2012 when I was doing an early college program in high school, so even if I do great now I don’t think I’ll have the 3.9 GPA that seems to be required to get into these places. Hopefully I’ll manage 3.5+ or so.
With engineering, from what I understand, the school you go to doesn’t really matter. But I imagine the business world is a lot more ‘snobby’ about where you got your degree from. Is this correct?
Anyway, does anyone have any suggestions on where to go as a transfer for an MBA? I’m not opposed to going out of state, I’m just not so sure it will be affordable. I was looking at Southern Methodist but they seem to be hard to get into as well and a bit pricey.
As for preferences other than the quality of the degree, really all I have is that I’d like to avoid more left-leaning schools. I don’t really like highly urban settings either, but I won’t rule out a good school for that.
