Could anyone tell me what textbooks are for Math 1A and Chem 4A?

Any picture would be great!

(Also, can anyone tell me the difference between Calculus (Custom Math 1A/1B) by James Stewart and Calculus: Early Trans (Single Variable:SSM) by the same author? )

Yes, the SSM is the student solutions manual. It is a companion to the text, which is the “Custom” book.

Solutions manual gives you answers to some of the problems in the text - if you do all the problems, this lets you check the answers and see how they got to the answer they list as correct. It is more expensive than the text itself.

This is an example of the bookstore promoting other stuff as suggested - suggested by them not by the professor - as a way to increase the amount you spend.

Custom means it was produced for Cal and usually that means it is a subset of the regularly published book by the same author and name. Usually that means the price is cheaper, but there would generally be no ISBN by which you could order this externally.

It is a bit early yet to see the assigned books. Ned’s does not list any titles for Fall yet, and the Chem 4A stuff is not loaded for the campus bookstore either. Wait a bit and order them once the stuff is posted. Often by comparing the list from Neds and campus bookstore you can figure out what is really required. Also, Ned’s sometimes has the cover picture available, which you can visually compare to any matches of the title you find on Amazon to uncover the ISBN for the book. Once you have the ISBN, you can search many other sites for the book.

Lastly, you can just wander into the bookstore before the year begins, write down the ISBNs from the books sitting on the shelves, and then go online to do your comparison shopping.

Thanks! I was JUST looking for the answer to those two questions.
