So my current schedule is… Chem 002A, SOC 001, Math 21A.
I was probably 6/12 at my orientation, but thanks to a generous and kind orientation leader and a unprepared student, I was probably worse than last with other orientation leaders having to come help after an hour.

I would’ve liked to register for Math 17A, but no spots remain. I am aware that they have a waitlist, but my question is this: Do the 2 classes share the same textbook? Should I buy a textbook now in hopes that I will get into Math 17A or should I simply wait until then?

I had the same problem at my orientation except I didn’t get into Chem 2A…I would check your pass 2 time on sisweb and see where you stand. If you have an early appointment, then expect to get into the class or at least waitlist for a class. I know most of the booklists aren’t up, but on ratemyprofessors.com there’s an option to look at what textbooks have been used for that class.

Another thought. I think that the textbooks would be different because MAT 17A has an emphasis on Bio/Sci, but that’s just a guess.

The textbooks are not the same. I can’t really comment on how likely it is that you’ll make it into the class from the wait list, but usually if the wait list is in single digits in a fairly large class, you have a decent chance. That said, you are an incoming freshman, so your pass time is pretty terrible–it’s the second to last day, and late in the day at that, so you are behind a ton of people.

Hahaha. My pass 2 time is Sept. 1 2pm. Just do what I do which is waitlist for pretty much every single lab that is in the single digits. At least I’m not alone when I say, we got screwed.

Yeah it seems that way. I’m only frustrated because they told us in orientation that you may not get the classes you WANT, but you will get classes you NEED. Apparently, that isn’t true for the select few students who had unprepared students in their group hold everyone up in picking their classes.

Biological sciences and molecular biology major that wasn’t able to get a chem class all because 1 guy couldn’t get his stuff together in the 3 days at orientation.

How does wait listing for more than 1 chem class work? Will it even allow me to register for more than 1 on sisweb? Do I have to sit in for each of those classes? Or Would I just choose 1 class and puts all the eggs in the basket as to speak?

If you go on sisweb and search chemistry, there will be the different chemistry classes available. During pass 2, just find the smallest waitlist numbers for each class and apply. You can waitlist 10 or 20 classes if you want (which I might do for chemistry).

I’m pretty sure you just have to go to the labs that you enroll for because the lectures apply to all chemistry classes rather than just one, but they recommend you go to all of the lectures so you don’t fall behind.

I’m not sure that transfer units factor in when determining your registration priority. But, even if they do, you’re still freshman standing. Pass times are not random. Those with priority registration come first–athletes, Regents Scholars, ISHP–then it’s based on units. I think the times on a given day may be randomized, but there is a general order based on priority. E.g. I, as a Regents Scholar and former member of ISHP, always register on the first day of passes.

When I use SISWEB to look up classes, I don’t see any Math 17A classes. I am guessing that it is because they are full and wont show up until pass 2 times?

Yes, that’s because they’re full. They may show up during your pass time. If not, you can input the CRN (from the CSRG) of the class you’re trying to get into and it should allow you to waitlist.

And I’m guessing I look up the CRN from that grey papered booklet?

On a side note…
Did anyone else receive a email saying that they got a triple room when they wanted a double or single?

I ask because I made sure to select occupancy as my most important preference with 1st, 2nd, and 3rd options all being selected with double rooms.

People on the facebook group were talking about that. I got a triple but I didn’t get the email (I checked the cost of my housing, which matched up with a triple.) Apparently they’re really overbooked for housing, so a lot of people who didn’t want triples got them anyway.

Well I’m trying to find the books I need for Chem 2A using the UC Davis website and I’m really confused on what books I actually need. There is just a huge list of Custom textbooks, lab notebooks, answers manuals, and I’m just not sure on what would be extra and would I NEED.

You need some version of the textbook. They might list several options for that. You also need the lab manual and lab notebook. Answers manuals are always optional–it’s up to you if you think they’ll prove useful or not.

So my French class says I need the textbook with “MyFrenchLab” included, but I found it without MyFrenchLab for a lot cheaper… Do I need “MyFrenchLab”? What even is that?
