hey guys, can’t find the honors link under admissions on the mybama page. Maybe it was moved ?

Adding a thanks as well to Mom. Now, if I can only get my son to write that essay for the honors app!

Should we put down our deposit and apply for housing before he gets that honors app in, which I’m sure will be done at the witching hour before the deadline!

PS. The deadline is December, right?

Yes, go ahead and send.

Tell your S not to sweat the app for UHP. He just has to write a paragraph about himself and his goals. Seriously, the essay for UHP is just a way to introduce yourself to the program.

(this is “yada yada yada” off the top of my head…LOL)
My kids’ UHP essays were along the line of…

At Alabama, I will be majoring in and minoring in . These academic programs will help prepare me for my career interest in _. I have looked over the course listings offered by UHP, and there are many classes that interest me, particularly ___ and ____________. I look forward to taking those classes and others, because they should provide some very thought-provoking discussions and assignments. I also like the fact that the honors classes are small in size. With success in my major and courses through the Honors College, I am certain that The University of Alabama will provide the academic success that I’ll need for my future career goal.

Amen. LOL Seriously, this essay doesn’t have to be “high-brow” or anything…just a simple paragraph.

Here is the link for the Spring course offerings to give you an idea…

Oh my gosh, my mom’s a celebrity.

Couple of notes about essays

In the online application form, CBHP doesn’t appear to ask for any essay other than the brief one required for the Honors Program itself. Is that the only essay opportunity for this program? Or will the student be asked for an additional essay later?

(The Fellows program makes it clear from the start that two essays are required.)

lgreen if i remember correctly, you have to check off the cbhp honors program before the essay box shows up. it loads once you select your honors apps

If a student is applying to both CBHP and Fellows, is it okay to use the same essay (or a variation) for both of those apps? Or does each essay need to be completely different?

I think the essays should be different and this is why…

For CBHP… I think the emphasis is a bit different - more on potential research that you’d like to do in your chosen major.

For Fellows… I think the emphasis might be more on being a service-oriented person. However, to be sure, I would have my kid email Fellows and ask what Fellows is all about - what the students are doing, etc. (the emphasis may have changed). Then, after getting a response (usually Fellows sends a detailed response) make sure the essay applies to what Fellows is doing.

The reason that I strongly suggest contacting Fellows and asking what Fellows is doing is because it’s a relatively new program (about 3 years old), and it seemed to be evolving. So, I would want to make sure I knew what it’s current emphasis was. Just send an email and say that you’re interested in the program and would like more information about what Fellows students are doing.
