According to the academic calendar, Thanksgiving break starts AFTER classes on Wednesday. Do professors ever cancel Wednesday classes so that students can travel home more easily for the holiday?

In your case…check with the Professor, don’t rely on CC.

^I’m asking for my son…who probably is more worried about midterms right now. I was just trying to get a feel for whether it ever happens or not. Thinking about whether to expect him home at a reasonable hour on Wednesday or not.

Many people just skip class…

A lot of profs will cancel Wednesday afternoon classes. Some won’t however. It really works on a class-by-class basis. One year I was stuck in Princeton thanks to a 7 to 10:20pm lab on a Wednesday that my TA refused to reschedule.

With the airline tickets sky high now I think S will just stay put for Thanksgiving at Princeton and maybe visit relatives in NYC on Thanksgiving day… He will come home for Fall break this weekend, though.

I assume all residential colleges will open for meals Thursday 11/24 to Sunday 11/28?

No, all (except one undergrad residential dining hall) will be closed after Wednesday night dinner until reopening on Sunday night for dinner. Wilson College will be the only dining hall open (and the Graduate College) during the Wednesday through Sunday TG holiday.

Wawa does a mean Gobbler sandwich that’s turkey, stuffing and cranberry sauce which is incredible. Just saying, it kinda beats the dining hall for a thanksgiving preview meal…

Kids can definitely wind up in class on Wednesday afternoon. And for those kids who have a long way to travel, usually a nice roommate or friend with local family will be glad to have a guest.
