That awkward moment when you find out she has a boyfriend.

This has happened to me 2-3 times recently and it drives me nuts. There is this cute girl (who is actually shorter than me) and she smiles and talks to me and is generally friendly. In the back of my mind I'm thinking "hey maybe there's a chance here"..

..Then 2 minutes later she mentions in a conversation (usually directed at someone else), "oh yeah my boyfriend is bla bla bla!" and that just totally kills the short feeling of hope that was felt, "Facepalm of COURSE she has a boyfriend!"

It seems like every girl i meet who is cute and shorter than, AND talks to me has a boyfriend. Does anyone else have issues with this dilemma?

Story of my life.

Ladies, learn what “the signals” are that you are sending to guys, either knowingly or not, and stop sending them to guys you don’t mean to! It confuses us!

Amen Brother.

1% of all men possess 99% of the women

^OCCUPY MEN!

^So smiling and talking and being friendly is a signal now?

I mean, there’s nothing wrong with being hopeful, but it’s not her fault.

I’m pretty sure there was no signal there…

yea. It’s not so much girls giving the wrong signals as it is the guys misinterpreting simple friendliness.

If you’re serious about pursuing a girl, make a move. If she’s already taken, then be her friend. Don’t be that wish washy guy who sits in the corner, waiting for girls to talk to him. good grief get a grip.

As far as I know, I don’t “send signals” but somehow guys always take my being friendly and smiling a lot as flirtation.

I blame romcoms.

Personally I’d far rather have girls (and people in general) be friendly, at the risk of occasional false signals, than have everybody spend life tiptoeing around fear of misunderstandings.

I flirt like crazy, but not on purpose. I make it known right away that I have a boyfriend as soon as a guy seems even remotely interested. Just assume all girls have girlfriends- if you find out they don’t, then bonus!

I’m not saying that she was (intentionally or unintentionally) sending signals. I’m not saying that I was interpreting anything the wrong way, or making it out to be more than it was. I had just met her, and we were in the library haha.

She simply seemed like a nice person and had a really nice smile, therefore in my mind I envisioned a scenario where something happened. Not seriously of course, i had just met her. But still, having even the slightest thought and then finding out she has a boyfriend makes you feel stupid.

whats even worse is this.

i’m friends with this girl who is a year older than me who i have a crush on. she has been with her boyfriend for 3 years, the entire time it took me to finish my degree and graduate. i went back to school over the summer and hung out with her. she said she was breaking up with her boyfriend.

it sucks that it happened exactly when i was leaving, and she decided to stay to do her masters.

i recently went back to my old school to visit over fall break. she said she got back together with her boyfriend. i just can’t help but wonder what would have happened if i was around during that short time when they had broken up…

Out of curiousity, how shor… I mean, how tall are you?

Holy crap TC. That happens to me a lot. I hate how girls casually mention a boyfriend. Sucks everytime. And its funny how every girl I know / have talked to has a boyfriend, even the less than attractive ones.

why do you filter people by height that is pointless

I’m 6’ 0"

…Perfect height for gettin the ladies :D

I’m not tall, i’m probably around 5’4-5". I see guys my height with girlfriends all the time so I’m not sure what you’re getting at…

She was no more than 5’1"

From now on start the conversation by saying, " Do you have a BF?" then after they answer say jk.

Because our moms have all said to us “she smiled at you for no reason? That means she’s interested.”

90% of the girls that say so usually don’t have boyfriends; it’s just a nicer thing to say than, “I’m not interested in you. Please leave me alone.”.
