Some other questions
1. Does the college you choose affect you getting accepted?
2. Do most people get into their 1st choice?
3. How big is each college and does the 6 college system make you feel as though you attend a smaller college?
4. Like the system? (and the college you attend?)

well i dont know much about the colleges but from what ive heard around CC,

Sixth- out in the boonies (generally looked down upon- dont know why though) i heard that people in sixth are isolated because they are so far away from the main campus

Muir- most people want this because of the easier GE's and the thick 'soundproof' brickwalls. Also, Muir dorms have a great location (beach view, near center of campus?) however- thick walls dont allow wireless internet

Revelle- people say revelle has the hardest GEs and is the toughest college.

ERC - roosevelt has the nicest dorms, however, i heard that the walls were paper thin and you could hear everything through them.

dont know much about warren or marshall though sorry!

marshall: known for having the best cafeteria - OVT (oceanview terrace..yes you can see the ocean ;] and it's open until 1 AM unlike the other places that close at 8/9 PM); most diverse; shares a big parking structure with erc (pangea); along with sixth and muir, probably has the smallest dorm/apartment area; has one tennis court, couple of basketball courts.

warren: might want to reconsider bringing your car if you were thinking of it. warren parking lots are really tricky and small and you could easily get a $80 ticket @__@; canyon view (it's the only college i've seen that actually has bunnies around lol); has Earl's Place (an overpriced "grocery store" and this new Viet restaurant; pretty big because there are a lot of dorms/apartments; personally i think the buses that go around campus stop by warren the most often for some reason, so better chance of not waiting a long time for the bus to come around.

sixth: known for the hottest guys LOL; has gilman parking structure; looks like camp snoopy; might wanna bring some bug spray, some of my friends get bug bites. that's all i can think of right now.

muir: nice location (some what near all the major lecture halls); has the muir surf and sport shop; has big tennis/basketball courts nearby; only like two patches of green grass lol. both dorm buildings (tenaya and tioga) are REALLY tall (so would suck if you're stuck on the top floors) compared to other colleges that only usually go up to 4 floors.

erc: has a really cool modern looking cafeteria (cafe v) that you can buy actually snacks like those big bags of chips/salsa and stuff you can't get at some of the other cafeterias like summit; one of the biggest parts of campus simply for the high number of apartments and dorms; most "green"; very thin walls so you can hear your neighbors even if they're semi-loud and talking on their cell phones; has RIMAC, which is UCSD's main gym/recreation center that has the coolest stuff you can sign up for; two big fields; probably has the most parking spots around (there's pangea which is 6 levels, then there's two huge additional parking lots on the other side).

btw, ALL three colleges on the west side of the campus (muir, marshall, erc) have oceanviews, especially on higher grounds.

kai, no more, i need to study for my final on friday.

oh and also, the laundry rooms in muir are actually right there in the hallways which is very convenient unlike other colleges like erc and marshall where you have to lug your clothes outside to the laundry mat. so no going down stupid stairs carrying a heavy load haha.

No, first you must get accepted to UCSD. THEN, they will decide which college to put you into.

Most people get their first choices. But for those colleges that get packed quickly, you either get your second choice or have to live in a different college but still “belong” with your first choice. For example, if you chose ERC as your first choice, but then it gets packed. Then they’ll have you live in Revelle, but you technically still belong in ERC. Which means you still have to take the same GE requirements as ERC students, except you just live in Revelle.

I’d say each college is as big as a high school, if not bigger. No, it doesn’t make me feel like I attend a smaller college because most of my classes include everyone from every college. The only time that you’re going to be taking a class with only people from your college is the distinct core sequence that each college has. Every student from their designated college MUST take their college’s core sequence. You’ve probably heard of them already: HUM (Revelle), Muir Writing (Muir), MMW (ERC), CAT (Sixth), Warren Writing (Warren), DOC (Marshall).

Personally, I do like the six college system. It allows me to interact with a smaller pool of people compared to 20000 students. Plus, we all have something in common. College pride is awesome.

:/ thanks so much for telling me absolutely nothing, I'm sick and tired of people telling me "college is what you make of it" ORLY? would you rather try and build a house from scratch or one where all you have to do is screw one single screw in?

That's horrible advice that would leave many people trying to force a college to be the way they want it to be, rather than attending a college that already is what they want.

So, please! "tell me more about it" don't give me generic answers which don't even address my main question.

i don't think sixth is bad at all...though i can't tell you much about it because it's the furtherest from my school (erc, so don't really have any reason to go down there)...it isn't really "isolated" as many people put it, it's just that it's the most southeastern part of campus, and is closest to uscd's school of medicine..i mean, it's better than erc's location because it has 3 lecture halls nearby and price center/library...my friends who are in sixth seem to enjoy their living conditions, only complaint i've heard from them is their GE writing (CAT), but then again everyone from every college complains about their writing classes..sorry i can't be any more help X/

Thanks, you've been more than helpful :)
Do you know if the bug problem is as bad as people say? I really don't like bugs >.> and also, how are the dorms (I heard they're supposed to be pretty bad)? Oh, and is the college really in a forest-ish area or what?

haha i took the liberty to call my friend, here's what she says:

bug problem: it's okay, just don't leave bananas out or you'll get a zillion flies, and there are a few mosquitos that fly around, but it's not a big problem or anything.

dorms: again, it depends on how "open-minded" you are. if your not picky like my friend then you should have no problems living in the dorms (which by the way is pretty small - around 5 rooms per suite compared to erc where there's 6+ rooms); carpet and walls could use some remodeling, has air conditioning unlike some other colleges, buildings are not high, so don't have to climb lots of stairs if you live on the top floor. my friend saids that yeah, sixth is the most "woody" area being surrounded by trees, but it's not like a problem or anything because there's also a lot of buildings around and such. bathrooms are just like the other college's bathroom - not the best, but livable.

the thing you should remember is that even if you don't like sixth's living conditions, it's not like you are stuck living there forever. if you don't like it, you can move off campus after the first year (but then again, the sixth apartments might be even better than the res halls/dorms simply for the fact that it's an actual "apartment" like setting with single rooms.)

hehe no prob, you can kinda tell i have nothing else to do during spring break lol. just make sure you submit your housing application NOW (just a few clicks and confirming your home address) if you want to get that single or double when you ask for it in the real housing application later (and it don't matter if you end up deciding not to submitting your sir to ucsd).
