While were all in Highland Falls, after we spend the day at R day, anyone want to plan to get together to sit around and chill, cry, re-hash the day, and generally bond as parents of new cadets?

Definitely. I am going alone and know I will not be a happy camper that evening. Great idea.

I'm in! Wife and I are staying at the West Point Motel.

Looking forward to meeting all of y'all! We ought to find a nice watering hole to meet at...one that is family friendly for those of us w/ little brothers and sisters in tow. Any suggestions? I bet Paulie and Sr. would have some ideas!

That's great. Armywife is staying there too. Are these hotels really close together? We ought to get together after the oath ceremony. I already get a lump in my throat thinking of leaving him there. I'm such a wuss!

West Point Motel and EconoLodge are less than a mile apart. Neither of these motels have a restaurant.

There's several places were you can meet on and off post. Thayer Hotel's lobby is nice, but I don't know how kid friendly. There's a McDonald's right outside Thayer Gate. There are a few family restaurants in Highland Falls, but they're not very big.
There's a Holiday Inn Express another couple miles down the road, where there's an area with tables and chairs they use for breakfast, but no restaurant that I remember. Are any of you staying there?

There is also a small park with a gazebo in Highland Falls near the museum. Not much seating and no playground, but there is some small shops. I think one is an ice cream shop.

You may also think about meeting at the Burger King up at the commissary on post, but I don't know what hours they're open.

You may want to inquire on prospective-net for other ideas of places to meet.

Try the Park right next door to Schade's. It's definitely family friendly and has a large back room. If all of you can plan on being there at a certain time, you may be able to reserve the back room. I'd suggest after the swearing in ceremony.

My mom is trying to post on here, but until she gets it worked out...

On the nights of 29 June and 30 June, we are staying at the Day's Inn in New Windsor (across the highway from SWF). I'm sure she'd be interested in any get-togethers on the night of 30 June.

Does anyone else plan to go to the Trophy Point concert on 29 June?

I would love to go to the concert! We have reservations for the 28th and 29th.
Going home Monday night but partying a little after the swearing in is not out of the question.
Please forgive me in advance for being the happiest mom there - this has been a very very long process.

I look forward to meeting your mom, Micah...I feel like I already know you, watching your journey to this point. I think we'll all be at trophy point...at least my GA contingent! We have a picnic earlier in the day, but not sure of particulars on that one yet.

YESSSS!!!! It let me in! Thank you, mom3boys. I have been lurking here for quite awhile, trying to get up to speed on my boy's future life. I appreciate all the helpfull information here, though I feel rather superfluous at this point. I am looking forward to meeting some or all of you and probably crying together.

Hi Micah's mom, and welcome! We already love your son here!! Glad you found your way!

micahsmom,

Welcome aboard! Stick around and let us know how your son is doing - and how you're doing with everything. Enjoy the ride.

let me know when and where and we will be there

Sounds like we ought to book the room at the park. Doesn't seem like there will be a restaurant big enough to accommodate everyone!

The Park is a restaurant -- my firstie says one of the things he will miss most is Sunday breakfast at the park with his friends.

Oops - my bad! Thanks USMA08Mom:-)

When are cadets allowed to leave post for breakfast?

Wow - you have two cadets? Hats off to you! Congrats on your firstie's upcoming graduation!

Thanks -- it is exciting and a bit scary to realize how quickly it passed!

Even plebes are allowed walking privileges (going off post inside a prescribed area) on weekends once duties are completed. They just have to be back in the barracks by a prescribed time. The restriction on how far they can go changes as they advance through the class system. Upperclassman often go to NYC on the weekends.

One of the most popular plebe destinations is Dunkin Donuts in Highland Falls.

The Park is definitely a restaurant, not a park. :)
