We start in eleven days (August 15). But we ended May 30th, so go figure.

Do any of you feel pressured to get good grades? It’s funny because my parents never pressured me, but instead it was my best friend. I got a B in second grade because I missed a month of school, and he told me a B meant ‘boo’. And I haven’t gotten a B since, so I guess that was really helpful.

LOL at “B means boo” In 5th grade, I got a B+ first trimester of math (I HATED arithmetic), and my mom completely flipped out and was yelling at me for an hour. I was a slacker back then, but now I’ve become a lot more serious about grades.

My parents expect straight As (no A-'s), but I’m basically self-motivated to get them, as in they don’t have to yell at me to study or whatever. They see me staying up really late to get hw done (mainly b/c of procrastination, not that they know haha) and tell me I need to “take it easy” or else I’ll get mono or something…But yeah, next year I’m going to self-study 6 APs, and they tell me to lighten the load in order to keep my GPA up there (currently ranked #1 in class, though I’m not sure how impressive of an achievement that is, really, considering the low number of honors kids at my school and the fact that I only just finished freshman year). Still going to do all the APs, though. Hope I don’t die haha.

Six self studies? To me, thats impressive. I used to be very hard working but I’ve gained weight from studying and not exercising so I’m changing my goal from being top in my grade to just getting a 90% avg.

I exercise while I study. Usually I have some big textbooks so I use them as weights. I don’t know where I stand among my class. I had the highest GPA for my science teacher last year, but that doesn’t say much since half the kids gave up on getting good grades after they knew they would pass.

@virtuoso Now my mom’s not letting me do 6. She’s like, “If you’re going to study them, they might as well be worth studying, or get you out of a class later, or something.” So now I’m probably going have to end up self-studying APUSH, along with Euro (which is on the same day as USH) and Psych. Well, really hope I don’t die this year.

Good luck to you EVA. Half of my courses are a year ahead of my grade but I’m still going to try to self-study AP Micro. I’m a bit of a procrastinator and stay up late because of that
Have to be stricter on myself if I’m going to self study an AP! My parents used to dream of me being a doctor or engineer or something but now they just want me to take it easy but still get straight A’s. I might take IB next year so I don’t know if it’s even worth taking AP Micro. I heard that IB is hell compared to AP.

@virtuoso I’m glad I’m not alone in the whole procrastinating thing; I do exactly what you do, stay up late to finish even the tiniest assignments b/c I’m too busy on the computer or on CC or whatever. My mom also wants me to “take it easy”, which is likely why she’s not letting me self-study a ton of APs. I’ve actually decided that I won’t do APUSH until junior year (I’m a sophomore), but I’ll self-study BC Calc instead. Good luck with AP Micro, though, if you decide to take it. Same with IB!

I’m not sure if I should take IB or not. The application deadline is far away in December but I have to get carpooling arranged and my application ready. My school only offers AP Calc, Chemistry and Physics. AP Physics and Chem get cancelled a lot because not enough people enroll so I’m taking a risk if I stay at my current school. At my current school, I can easily get good grades, leadership position and enough sleep. However, I’d still have to self study a few APs to stay competitive if I stay which is why I’m considering moving to an IB school. I’ve been thinking this over for about a year now.

Hi (sorry for butting into the conversation), but I’m an Asian too
And it’s so stressful to be living in an Asian country (I’d rather not say where), but everyone around me seems so smart and they’re absolutely perfect. I feel so small and stupid compared to all of them. I don’t know what I’m doing with my life while they’re taking extra classes until 1 in the morning.
My school, I swear, is trying to drag all of us down. They wouldn’t let me take 2 APS (which is the max for sophomores), and we have pretty useless classes in our schedules like a Christian/Religious class. I really should self-study for an AP, but I can’t get myself to it.

Yeah, I keep on telling myself I should start self studying for three APs for this year, but I can’t even bring myself to look at my prep books.

Oh, and I’m half Desi, but I’m gonna stay here whether I’m allowed to or not. :)

Do any Asians NOT like rice at all? Jw…

Well I don’t see how you can’t like it. It doesn’t taste like anything.

I don’t know what I would eat if I didn’t have rice.

Aren’t Indians also Asians since India is part of Asia?

Yeah, but most people think Oriental when they hear “Asian”.

Well in America they do.
If you say “Asian” in England or some other European countries they immediately think “South-Asian.”

Hey guys, well I’m 75% black and 25% Chinese, so that makes me a blasian!

Omg blasians! That’s cool :)

@Mighty
Yeah, when I skyped w/ my British cousins, they kept on calling themselves “Asian” and not “Desi.” It was wierd. I usually just say “South Asian” because saying “from the Indian subcontinent” takes too long.

How many of you Asians have low SAT scores? When i mean low i mean like around 1500-1600s? Since being Asian is a disadvantage, this college process makes me worry. Why?!):
