The Battle for Fin Aid

Hi everyone!

Last year, I got waitlisted at NYU and was really bummed out but I decided to apply again this year as a transfer student and I got in! Only, I would be happier if I had actually gotten real financial aid. NYU gave me a ton of loans...@_@ ($20,000+ worth of them) and having already taken a lot of loans at the school I go to now, ($13,500)...I'm not looking to borrow any more loans! I plan on becoming an international doctor and I'm not doing it for the money (most international doctors usually don't make that much anyways) so I also wouldn't be able to pay back all my loans if I were to borrow any more. I applied to NYU's Global Institute of Public Health and i really want to go since it'll help out with my global health aspirations but with the financial package I have now...it's impossible!!!!
I already wrote a letter of appeal and they flat out said and I quote verbatim "scholarship opportunities for transfer students are rate"....they couldn't even spell rare right. >.>

BUT I don't want to give up! I get the maximum from TAP/FAFSA and i truly do believe there must be some help NYU can give from their gargantuan-sized pool of endowment funds.

Do you guys know any special scholarships at NYU that I could apply to or any other methods of appeal i could try? I haven't gone to see them in person or talk to them on the phone...should I do that too?

Thanks!

Sorry to burst your bubble, but have you read any previous posts about NYU’s financial aid? They are notorious for not providing financial aid. I’m impressed at what they have already given to you. You could look at their financial aid web page but I don’t think there are a whole lot of options for you.

Did u apply to any other schools? Why not finish at your present school?

We cut NYU from the list very early, bcs it does give much aid. As far as its “gargantuan-sized” endowment is concerned, when u view it per/capita, it’s not so impressive.

Yeah, NYU does not have much of an endowment, so unfortunately you are SOL
