Okay, I'm going to level with The Sims fans out there. I don't really get the game.

But why is The Sims better than The Sims 2?

Okay, I'm going to level with The Sims fans out there. I don't really get the game.

But why is The Sims better than The Sims 2?

Well I grew up with The Sims, but when The Sims 2 came out, I was already in high school. I own both but I never got into The Sims 2 like I did with The Sims, although the second one really is the better game. I don't play either now, so I don't know if it had to do with my getting older or what, but The Sims will always hold a soft spot in my heart.

Although I was also a N64 fanatic. I played it everyday for at least 2 years after receiving it for my 8th birthday. My favorite games were Mario Party, Diddy Kong Racing, and Super 64 Mario.

I didn't get The Sims either.

I borrowed it from a friend and played it for a week.
I just ended up killing my characters for fun and returned it.

What's the appeal of The Sims? I'm not sure (didn't like it myself), but I figure it's probably in messing up a life without consequence. Well, save for the hours you spent playing instead of, you know, living. ;)

As for /ignore, I dunno. It makes things hard to coordinate, and coordinating is part of what I find fun. And I like to banter - just not that kind of banter. Especially at the rare times I let slip that I'm, well...

It's just not been the best experience.

I honestly don't understand The Sims anymore either....I mean, what was I doing for all those hours? But I just think that I hvae grown out of my "gaming" era, because I'm not entertained by any video/computer games anymore.

I use the same 21" widescreen HD LCD monitor for my Xbox (via component) that I use for my computer, so it does get a bit annoying to switch from playing F.E.A.R. and Halo 2 on the same screen but with different control configs. Ah, such is life for an FPSer. =P

Does anyone here play Halflife 1/2? They kick ass.

ok, the best games I've ever played are :-

Super Mario 64
Legend of Zelda : Ocarina of Time
Half-Life 1
Unreal Tournament GOTY
Unreal Tournament 2004
Warcraft 3
Warcraft 3: The Frozen Throne (expansion)
The entire Prince of Persia series (starting from POP:Sands of Time)
Devil May Cry 3 : Special Edition
GTA : Vice City
NFS : Underground 1
Diablo 1
The Elder Scrolls : Morrowind
Vampire the Masquerade : Bloodlines
Elma (Elasto-mania)
Max Payne 1
Deus Ex 1

can't think of anything else at the moment, will update the list later.

Man I've been playing starcraft broodwar for ages along with counterstrike 1.6. Source just doesnt cut it for me.

Resident Evil 1,2, and 3

Nothing compares

No one plays counter strike?

i've been playing CS for 5 years, and i still love it...

New game review!

Lego Star Wars 2 - XBox 360

Graphics 4/5
Sound 4/5
Control 3/5
Gameplay 5/5
Overall 4/5

This game is pretty darn fun. The Lego-style graphics are really better than my 4/5 suggests. Not only are they sharp...they really fit. I know it sounds silly, but this series just works for some reason. I had pretty low expectations at first, I must admit. I thought it'd just be some kiddy game with no play value.

Boy was I wrong.

This isn't to say that it's terribly challenging like say...Gears of War. But it's not supposed to be. It's just fun. Really really fun. Plus, it has tons of replay value added on in the form of hunting for all the extras. A little lazy on the part of the designers? Maybe. But I kinda like these hunt and seek sorts of affairs.

My biggest complaint is the camera control. Or lack thereof, really. I understand that they do this on purpose to limit how much you need to be responsible for, but on some levels the wonky camera was frustrating.

Controls are simple and effective.

Sound is what you expect: Star Wars with more Star Wars on top of Star Wars. Nothing you'll be shocked by, really. But it's crisp, clean, and works. No complaints.

This game is a lot of fun. It's sad, but it's keeping me away from Call of Duty 3. Oh well. Games are supposed to be fun.

Hey you guys, I have an old Xbox, am back on break, and need a video game to kick back with. I was wondering what you guys might suggest? I saw a commercial for this game Bully, which looked kinda comical. Anyway...I'll take any considerations.

thanks!

One game a lot of people miss is Psychonauts. Definitely worth a look.

And the thread is back!

Got back from a raid in Molten Core, and I thought I'd give you guys a taste of my thoughts on collective action problems in video games... this comes from my blog, which will remain private for now.

"One of the things we study in grad school at UCSD's International Relations and Pacific Studies program (IR/PS) is collective action issues. In short, people are idiots and can't get anything done in large groups because everyone is inherently selfish and free rides.

I know, I know. We're paying people money to figure out the obvious. And I get California taxpayer dollars to study it, too. Ain't life grand?

So anyway, here's a problem in World of Warcraft: you need groups to do things. Sometimes 5, sometimes 10, sometimes 25, and in rare cases 40. Think about the average person-- imagine how stupid and annoying he is. He's sitting there, drooling on the keyboard, discussing how cool he is because he does drugs and skateboards. His eyes have a dull sheen not unlike that of a herd animal (easy analogy, I know...) His very existence is an insult to the continued survival of the human race. Yet there he is eating up MY bandwidth and taking MY phat loots. Jerk.

Now imagine a game where not only can you not avoid our specimen, but you're actually forced to interact with him. Or rather, 39 of him. Okay, okay, I'll be fair. In most cases you'll at least get a few cool people. So let's say 35 of him. 35 brain damaged people attempting to accomplish pretty challenging tasks in a game that requires teamwork, strategy, and actual thinking behind every action. As you might have guessed, this usually doesn't work out well. It usually leads all of us to the dead pile.

But the "guild" system is supposed to overcome that. By letting the smart people join into cohesive groups, they can rule the wild lands of Azeroth as only...umm...smart geeky electronic proxies can. Well, at any rate, they'll kick butt.

Unfortunately for me, my server is full of the brain damaged types and pretty light on the smart types. To make matters worse, the smart types have already formed guilds and are coveting their organizations like a fat kid covets Twinkies. So here I am, smart, decently equipped, and ghoulishly bored. The idiots beckon, but the smart people push away.

See, I had a guild, but they kind of left me in the dust. I've joined a new one at the behest of a friend, but they've got all of 10 people right now. Not enough to get much done.

And here I thought videogames were supposed to be about avoiding real life's challenges. Thank you Blizzard. You've not only sucked away like 30 days of my life (literally), you've managed to give me reason to pause and consider some of the crap I learned in school as it relates to a videogame. Bravo."

This last run in MC just reinforced that. I hate video games.

But I love them so much.

:(

Tales of Symphonia!!!!!

Most underrated game ever.

brand_182, you did not just say that. The only reason people love that game is because it is one of the few good RPGs on the Gamecube.

ToTA (Tales of the Abyss)>>>>>ToS. Though, admittedly, ToS>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>ToL.

Then again, pretty much anything is better than Tales of Legendia...

Stupid Sony and their "No-sprites" policy. I want ToD (Tales of Destiny) remake and ToR (Tales of Rebirth), darnit!

Symphonia is overrated. A solid game, yes, but not that great.

And UCLAri, that's why I vow to avoid MMORPGs until I graduate.

silence!

It is an excellent and unique game! But I haven't gotten to play ToTA because someone thought it would be funny to release it on PS2 instead.

:D :D :D

If you liked ToS, you'd LOVE ToTA.

Except for Luke, that whiny bastard...who turns depressive!

Jade FTW!

But, unique? Have you played the other games in the series? Some of the features are holdovers from Tales of Phantasia!

Sadly, no. I heard the one for SNES is great, but I don't have one. I thought about downloading the emulator, but haven't had the time.

I checked out ToTA on IGN.com and, I dunno, it looked like the graphics weren't as good. It may have just been bad pictures, but I definitely do need to play it.

That's just funny somebody actually knows what Tales of Symphonia is. Lol.
