If they are racing sailboats they will want a sailing watch that counts down to the shapes. There are a bunch on the market.

USNA69's answer about watches earlier was great, as were all the other suggestions. I went with something reasonable.

The watch is now on an extended submersion test in the East River (sailing mishap). :( SOOO glad it was not an expensive one.

I WILL get him a replacement...

So if you see a P/C walking around trying to hide a watch:
-- that his Dad welded to his arm,
-- that has a purple dinosaur on it's face, and
-- that chimes every hour with "Let's sing the BARNEY song! :) "

then make sure you say "Hello. You're Zonker's kid, aren't you?"

OK. Not really. But I feel better now. Thanks.

$100 calculator left under a leaking air conditioner on the bridge & re-purchased
$200 MP3 player dropped, stepped on then dropped again, broken, re-purchased
$50 infa-red led flashlight, used a few times then gone missing, re-purchased

Learning how to Salsa in Equador = priceless! :D

You know, I don't feel so alone after reading these experiences!

better yet....20 dollar rolex...??/from Yantien...stopped suddenly...but regular timex still ticking....however 170 dollar Callaway clubs...do not believe it yet..but we will see........but it is all about the experience...right??

isnt the best watch no watch? :)
also do the seniors still have watch? if they do, do they get to pick what time they want it?
im sure the plebes get the worst times right?
