The Box - What did you put in it?

My box in 2000 was a simple poem typed on plain white paper, folded accordion-style so it fit within the box and glued in on two edges. I got in. It doesn't have to be complex or even artistic... just... you, and not cliche. Good luck, everyone!

a picture of the statue of liberty. I had a little not to the side explaining how i think it's important b/c america gives immigrant hope. My parents are from nigeria. i got in interim decision

i kinda regret mine now...

Why do you regret it jjjjj? Which did you put?

I pasted a scientific cross section of a rice grain in it.

I kinda regret it too.

i put a picture by fernando botero

http://simpler-solutions.net/pmachinefree/images/uploads/Botero.jpg

it is a great picture, but i dont think it explains anything about me. i did, however, put on the side that it detailed some of the many things i liked to do -
eat, rest, be outdorrs, hang out with gf

meh, i guess it wasnt that bad. it wasnt a rice grain.lol

That is an awesome thing to put in jjjjj!

i had no idea so i just went with what was already in the application http://users2.ev1.net/~pikkula/rice_emblem.gif

riskcaredream - thanks. makes me a feel a wee bit better

A picture of a brownie sundae. What can I say? It appeals to me. I'm definitely an "eat dessert first" kinda gal.

My friend did something really cool. Although it was corny, it was still amazing. The question was why Rice would be a good option for you or whatever. He took around 8 different types of rice, and glued one grain of each in the box. And at the bottom, he put "Diversity".

wow. i bet he was asian!

There are three things that Rice says NOT to do with the box, because they've seen them far too many times:

1) A grain of rice
2) An acceptance letter from Rice
3) Putting something outside of the box, to show that you are an "outside-the-box" thinker.

Your friend might've been fine, though, because he went a bit beyond the grain of rice...

I briefly thought of printing my application on rice paper, but I decided against it.

hahahahahaha

hahaha jjjjj - i like yours. good luck all.

LOL at NYskins1 . rice paper for your application? haahha

wow you guys had really amazing boxes, esp the origami box from a post about a month ago

my box sucks, now that i see what everyone put

i loveee swatch watches (which i couldnt help but mention in my rice interview -_-) and so for my box i got some pictures of differnet types of watch brands that looked boring. they were all white to present how bland/tastless/mundane they were.
then i put a swatch right in the middle, and it was bright blue and had a REALLY unique un-watchlike shape to it.
then i shaded all the boring watches black and i put a ring of yellow/orange around the swatch ... like it "lights" up the box and contrasts with the dark shades of the other watches.
i guess im trying to show that uniqueness and creativity stands out and is "enlightening".

but i think rice ppl will just be like "oh she likes watches. lots and lots of watches. especially swatch watches."

bah a little more than a week til we find out decisions! X_X

i didnt get the chance to visit before i applied- but now that i think about my box, it might have been a bad idea:

i cut out a figure-- so basically there is the white sheet of paper with blank space in the middle, the cut out is of the symbol for hope... which basically went along with the theme of my application, my volunteer work, the value of hope, etc. i think its cheesy, oh well

A picture of the poster for the upcoming World Cup in Germany. I love soccer and apparently it worked, since I got in.

i heard that was the deciding factor - not. lol

cookiemonkey, that looks like ur advertising :)

I put a story or actually a report I had written in a booklet form.. I had earlier rescued an owlet near my home and adopted him for a week before returning him to his nest... he didnt stay in a cage just roamed around the house.... thot it was a nice story and coincidentially, it was an OWL :D
