The Box

I just got part II of my application in the mail today. On one of the pages there is an empty BOX several inches (maybe 3 or 4?) on each side.

"Place something that appeals to you in the box."

What do I put in that box? A doodle? A cramped handwritten essay? A photograph?

I don't understand the box. The box is really stressing me out.

dont ask, you'll get flamed for doing so. Just put something you find appealing.

will they know I asked...?
this is all so mysterious!

polly - don't stress over The Box. Put absolutely anything in there you want.

so a photograph isn't too easy? and does it have to fit exactly into the box?

it doesn't matter if it's not an exact fit. i feel the point of the Box is to show the person(s) reviewing your app something about you. Good luck!

I'm pretty sure most people put photographs or drawings of some sort.

dude...just do it. it should be the first thing that comes to midn seriously dont ask other ppl

believe me.. put ANUTHING except

grains of rice

anything to do with food rice

Same as 2
...

Same as 2

I mean it. I put an awesome pic, my friend put origami and another put a drawing.. and my other friend put a photoshopped image.. and all went well

Also, I hear putting something 'outside the box' is a no-no as well....it's been done and you won't look clever if you do it too. Plus, they really mean it when they say they want something within the lines of the box.

well, if it exceeds is one thing.. if you put something outside and say 'think out of the box'

There would have been easily 5000 people before you who have done that

good luck everyone!

DD stuck a scrap of fabric in the box. She got in w/merit aid. Don't sweat the box!!!!!

haha... i love how the scrap of fabric gets mentioned every time one of these box threads comes up...

seriously, do whatever you want. and it's probably not a good idea to ask people what they put too... since it's easier to come up with your own ideas if you don't have a bunch of other people's ideas stuck in your head.

i agree... be yourself and nothing else

The scrap of fabric keeps being mentioned because I mention it each time the question comes up!!! :) I just want to let kids know that it doesn't seem to be a big deal to the adcoms, and it doesn't seem to have negatively impacted my dd, since she got accepted and with merit aid. Good luck to you all.

the fabric probably had some relavence.. i would say the box is like a helping factor... if its goood and reflects your personaliy, it helps... it hurts if you do something lame like put RICE or summat like that

I gave up on creativity. I put a picture in the box. The box can bite me.
