The College Admissions Interview—What Does it Really Mean and How Can You Prepare? - College Confide

This article ignores the fact that some schools, such as Brown University, no longer have interviews conducted by admissions officers. Instead, they use their alumni networks to conduct the interviews. With alumni interviewers, the schools can provide interview opportunities for virtually applicants. Even with 30,000+ applicants per year, Brown provides interviews for 99% of them.

With alumni interviews, the information in the article is not accurate. As an alumni interviewer, I’m not privy to any of the information on file at the admissions office other than the student’s name, contact info, and desired major (or concentration, as it’s know at Brown). Also, since I usually meet with students right after school, I don’t expect formal attire. The meetings are usually held in a pizza place or a Starbucks, not an office. I try to keep them as informal as possible. But do show up on time.
